Coronavirus

I just followed the crowd. So few others wearin one and much chat about what kind of mask was adequate that I just stopped thinkin about it.

I don't want to be too harsh, but this is an awful way of approaching this. The crowd of indifference happens because of people thinking along these lines - it is individual actions that form the actions of the crowd.

It's not indifference. He's just following the rules in his country. Nobody's telling him to wear a mask in public.

Having said that, nobody told him to take a piss in public. But he did it anyway...

I take that on the chin and in other ways (keeping 2m apart, washing hands, isolation etc) I have not been wishy washy and I have spoken my mind to friends and work mates but for some reason it was different with masks. We could all have done untold damage with any of our interactions and behaviours but when I see how few people in my area wear masks and I look at the relatively low death rate here then I don't feel bad about it. Maybe we would have had less deaths in my country if we all wore masks, maybe I infected people by not wearin a mask. I admit that sayin "I wasn't the only one" is no excuse but it is what it is, you know?

"But whatever" is pretty much the attitude you were just critising Niall for.
I'll clarify, I did and do not have a 'whatever' attitude about this whole thing. I manage people in my work and I keep an eyeball on hand and surface hygiene and I'm hygienic outside of work. I have taken this thing seriously. But masks aren't part of that, be that right or wrong, and that is likely because of the guidance/news/behaviour in my country. The bars are open here and I havent been yet, nor have I returned to the climbing wall but wearing a mask is not part of my life and nor is it being suggested to me by friends or overlords.
Although a quick internet search seems to suggest that the WHO reckon that wearing a mask is required where social distancing is not possible. That would include goin to the shop. Yet it is not compulsory here. And yet again we have a relatively low infection and death rate, I think. So fuck knows.

I didn't assert that anyway, it was just the "crowd wasn't doing it so I didn't do it" point about the masks. Cried got fixated on a word (indifference) and completely missed the point about individual responsibility/social consequence as pertains to actions, an angle that can't be applied to me not elaborating about my disagreement with his point.
