I'm going to keep on with masks. I've got no wish to catch cold or flu, which was happening constantly when I was getting packed buses every day, let alone covid. Plus I found the unexpected side effect of masks helping with my asthma. I wheeze with exercise and get asthma attacks walking outdoors in cold weather. Not with a mask on, warming the air. I'm even considering starting to go running.
It's gradually emerging that covid is becoming a problem here again now anyway. They say they're baffled by hospitalisations and deaths going up seemingly ahead of rate of increase in cases, but also concede that few people are getting tested now and there's no mandatory self isolation for people who test positive.
If the authorities' strategy was simply to remove legal restrictions and shift responsibility to the general public and employers (I don't think it genuinely was), they should have kept up the publicity campaigns about taking precautions.
Omicron has just hit the country. My community is now isolated, nobody can go out for 14 13 days. We can still walk on the common space /garden and that's something. 4 of our buildings (close cases) are isolated and I'm guessing some apartments must be totally isolated as well.
I haven't experienced the 3 weeks hotel quarantine yet, but judging from this, it must be horrible.
At least now I can walk, have my own food & deliveries and be at the comfort of my own home.
~800 total reported cases in Shanghai yesterday. That is a ridiculously big number comparing to what we've been used to. I've heard that West of Huang Pu river (>15 million people) to enter any building one must submit a PCR test taken in an approved centre 48 hours before. This is an indirect and polite way to tell you "stay home".
There are a few PCR testing centres in the community and everyone needs to be tested the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th & 14th day.
The specimens are filed /examined in batches of 10, to save time.
EDIT: The good side of it, is I'm getting to know my Community. Combined with the nice weather it has something touchy all people gathered down to be tested.
And I'm already starting to be familiar with the morning runners. Who is running fast, who's not, their gear, there's a good side always

The problem we have in the UK is that the lack of credibility of the government means that any message coming from them is going to be ignored. If you combine that with the - understandable - desire of people to go back to how things were in 2019 you have a potential recipe for disaster (fingers crossed we do not end up with a new variant more dangerous than Omicron appearing in the near future).
I will also be keeping my mask on indoors for quite some time…
There is a kind of new more contagious variant of omicron and the government is thinking in to quit off masks in indoors following the same French got has done.
I'll keep using my mask wherever.
Yeah, I never felt so unsafe as I did when I was on a Malmö bus. Well, until I returned to Canada and they crammed 300 people in a small room for entry COVID testing (where I caught COVID in the line). But yeah, come on, folks.
Thank you MindRuler. I had a positive selftest and I'm still waiting for the result of the "real one", but I'm pretty sure that will be positive as well.
Mom had symptoms since Monday and only got tested on Wednesday, and up until then, she was around me without a mask. I tested negative yesterday and don't have any symptoms. Apart from a headache, but that's because of my mom, not Covid If I don't get it now, I never will.
Also, what's the verdict on getting the 4th shot? I read that only old people are getting it, but I figure why the hell not. If 3 shots didn't do anything to me, 4th won't either. I know Jer got tinnitus from the shots, but I already have that, and people get panic attacks and anxiety and I already have that too, so idk what other curveball can be thrown at me.

Right now, it seems like they are only gonna recommend 4 shots for 50+ or immunocompromised folks, but I wouldn't be surprised if 6 months down the road they send me to get a fourth shot. I'm fine with it. I figure it'll end up being yearly shots along with the flu shot.
Just want to be clear that in the general case I think people should be getting fully vaccinated and boosted if they’re able to and don’t experience any long-term negative side effects.
My situation is apparently a tiny minority case, but one enough people have experienced that it’s starting to get broader attention. And the ENT I consulted said that in my shoes he would probably avoid any further COVID shots if nothing else changes for me. But that’s unique to my situation.
