Such quality ideas (like Eternity), they stand out from the rest. Special/classic vibe, to say. Some very good short rockers, but those two longer songs feel epic. I would personally add Wounds too. Then, Many Doors and Ragnarok in terms of the ideas.

Yep, unfinished too.

The solo band really clicked and the energy is great. No Roy, but I can't complain.

I said Jerusalem because it wasn't a staple in 1998 either. And because of the length of both songs. Him to play more than 4 new songs? Not sure. And Shadow is easier for his vocals than Many Doors. The latter will most likely be dropped. It, Road and Jerusalem had the same number of plays last year. Faith wasn't far either. It will be harder if he plays more songs from TOS, Road being a rotation song is still wow. I guess Tower is a more effective closer.

I also hope for Wounds, but Bruce likes Sonata more for sure. Will he play it, probably not. I thought he'd try Eternity, but I'll understand if he doesn't.

Do you think the new album will get a 3rd leg? I guess Bruce will want to tour solo every year.

European shows this year, dunno, it also depends on his plans for Maiden and his solo writing, right.
I didnt like the "new version" of road to hell. The keyboard is really weird.

Yes, it is somewhat ironic that after such a long time he released an album that sounds like “declared finished far too quickly”. I don't think it sounds unimaginative/uninspired either.

I didn't expect Roy Z to be part of the tour. After what he said on Facebook and not just once and what was done/said from Bruce's side we don't even know.
You have to ensure a good atmosphere during a tour and that would certainly have been a strange atmosphere.

I don't think it's about magic or the lack thereof. There are many great ideas on The Mandrake Project. It simply needed more focus and editing, instead of piecing together an album from ideas spread over literal decades, including some first drafts.
Agreed (and with that: ''...after nearly a half-century, he’s still hell-bent on pushing himself to new heights, regardless of who’s backing him''). I don't know whose fault it is or they just decided that this was enough for the songs (Bruce used the phrase a slightly different type of metal), but unfinished songs after so long? You can fix that in sporadic writings, right. It's odd. They rushed release it? The funniest thing was when Roy said in an interview that he filled the space left for a potential 2nd guitarist...? The material (ofc) and Adrian were part of the magic in the 90's, TOS felt made with more enthusiasm, but the interesting and good ideas are still there though; age probably reflects. TCW is a tough album to beat.

Maybe it's time for Bruce to make something fresh with his solo band. And after Roy's comments. Chances, atmosphere... With him - he'll most likely use the leftovers from the last 20 years. And his playing on the album is far from inspiring. I think sometimes you have to choose what will bring you enthusiasm both in the studio and live, like Bruce did in 1997.

Btw, Roy's latest post from today (after Bruce announced the solo dates yesterday) is a live with Rob from 2010, saying he's the best metal frontman. He also thinks Priest is the best metal band of all time, well at least recently. Coincidence?

While I could get behind that sentinment, it is very clearly a jab at Bruce and Roy Z is looking increasingly pathetic because of that.

To be fair, it is not the first time he’s said that. Bruce did a BBC 6 Music special in 2008 from LA, including interviews with people backstage (some of those people feature on Flight 666) and Roy Z mentioned that Priest was his favourite band.

That being said, the timing of his latest post cannot be a coincidence. Sad end to the partnership that gave us such good material in the 90s, but it is probably time to move on.

Yeah, I agree. Z's creative contributions on both Made of Metal (Halford 2010) and Mandrake are, bland. Time to write with somebody else.
