Holy Diver is easily one of my favourite albums ever.
And one I thought would do well here. Sad.

Actually I'm kinda surprised that it has 5 votes. I always feel underwhelmed when listening to it. I wouldn't call it one of Dio's best moments. Not that it's bad though.

Grrr. A vote for the album with the best A-side in the history of metal, hell even in the history of music.
There are plenty of albums on this list (one even by Priest) with better A-sides. Defenders doesn't come close.

I prefer the other one.
If you mean Last In Line, then yes, I prefer that one too.

I'm with Foro on the A side thing. Only album in its class is also up there - Moving Pictures.
Defenders' B side is weaker though.

I can see that although I myself prefer this album's B-side to the A-side. Contrary to most of you, I am not that fond of the first two tracks.
Defenders' B side is weaker though.
Yes. Although I find Some Heads fantastic. Night Comes Down is also great. The rest is indeed clearly less strong than the A-side material.

Still my favourite Priest album of the eighties, hands down.

Ha! Nothing beats the group consisting of:
- Freewheel Burning
- Jawbreaker
- Rock Hard Ride Free
- The Sentinel
I can do without Rock Hard Ride Free and Jawbreaker.

Moving Pictures
A Night At The Opera
Screaming For Vengeance

All have far superior A sides. And that's just from the first four in the group.

I also like Love Bites as one of the best concert openers I've ever been privileged to see and Heavy Duty might just be a simplistic anthem, but it was great live as well.
It's just in comparison to side A that side B suffers.

May 1984, 25,000 people in an ugly concrete bubble outside Seattle called the Tacomadome.
At the time it was the biggest audience Priest had ever attracted as a headline act and it was the best concert I've ever seen.
The radio station had played every song except Love Bites. The red eyes of the Metallian cut through the gloom as the opening notes tolled. Then boom! When you feel safe! The band cut in, Rob came sauntering out and we went nuts. What the fuck was this! The place went nuts for two hours of favourite after favourite. I remember Rob just leaning back and shaking his head in amazement as we made the place shake "We arrreee Defendeeeerrrs of the Faaaaiiith."

Good times.

Awesome. :)
Sometimes I wish I were older (now I hear some forumers think "Me too". ;-) )

I have their 5-5-1984 bootleg (on MP3) and it's the best bootleg ever. Should have been released as a live album instead of the Turbo tour. What a set. :notworthy:

  1. Love Bites
  2. Jawbreaker
  3. Grinder
  4. Metal Gods
  5. Breaking the Law
  6. Sinner
  7. Desert Plains
  8. Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
  9. The Sentinel
  10. Rock Hard, Ride Free
  11. Night Comes Down
  12. The Hellion
  13. Electric Eye
  14. Heavy Duty
  15. Defenders of the Faith
  16. Victim of Changes
  17. Freewheel Burning
  18. The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)
  19. Living After Midnight
  20. Hell Bent for Leather
  21. You've Got Another Thing Comin'

Yeah, that looks like the set. Must have been within weeks or days of my show.
I want to say I also saw Diamonds and Rust, but that must have been another tour.
I also remember how Desert Plains was twice as fast as the studio version.

NP Freewheel Burning

NP Jawbreaker. Love that little cymbal touch on "the viper" Great tension throughout the song and KK's bends are godly.

Edit: sorry, turning this into the now playing thread.
