Is there some reason that Moving Pictures and Screaming for Vengeance haven't advanced to the playoffs yet? Each poll they get anywhere from zero to two votes. Are they going to keep showing up in every poll? I seem to recall the rule is "two albums from every era" but perhaps the early 80s deserve some sort of exemption or "wild card" qualifiers! Even the Champions League understands that the English and Spanish top leagues deserve more slots than the Croatian league.

Also, is there a master list of albums that have qualified for the playoffs? If so, can you post it?

Thanks, and sorry for peppering you with questions.

Actually, I looked back at the rules and it seemed to answer all questions, including all the albums that have qualified in the "spoiler." From what I can tell, Moving Pictures and Screaming for Vengeance are battling Mob Rules for the two spots from that era, and ANATO, Rising, Sad Wings and WYWH are in a bloodbath for the two spots from their era. (By the way, 1979-80 is going to be an even bigger bloodbath, I predict.)

Might I be so bold as to suggest an amendment that, if an album survives 10 (or maybe 15) rounds, it's in the playoffs?

I certainly admire Nikki Sixx's drive and ambition, but definitely not his lifestyle - although he has matured a lot in recent years and his book's were decent (although as one is a Diary it's not THAT important). Mick Mars I think doesn't fit in with the rest of them so much. My opinion on Tommy changes frequently, but Vince I think is a total idiot.

I actually have really harsh opinions of them as people. I liked all of them, and then I read The Dirt (though the only reason I read that book was for the whole Nikki allegedly sleeping with Bruce's wife thing :p ) and I essentially started hating everyone except Mick (who I actually admire now). Vince is a moron, Tommy makes excuses for EVERYTHING, and Nikki is a self-absorbed asswipe.

Smash
Sound of White Noise
Youthanasia

I'm actually kinda surprised by all the Grace Under Pressure votes. I've always considered it one of Rush's best albums.

I haven't actually been keeping track of all the era battles, and now that I know Mob Rules (the clearly inferior album) is battling Pictures and Vengeance, I kinda wish I voted against it. But I'm torn because it's one of the better albums left.

Master of Reality
Volume 4
Siamese Dream
Sound of White Noise
Turn Loose The Swans

My favorite Dream Theater album has joined the game. Also my favorite album on the whole list. It's more metal head friendly, being more riff driven and isn't very complicated. They get all the wanking out in one song. The rest are mostly more direct in structure. It also has some of the best atmosphere.

Nominating:
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Tool - 10000 Days
Scorpions - Humanity: Hour 1
Symphony X - Paradise Lost

It's definitely gotten pretty hard to enjoy their music now that I know that they're all assholes. Especially Vince, I hate him.

Same here, I love it. Not one bad momnet.

Yea, I decided to spare it this round but I didn't realize what was going on. Pictures and SFV wipe the floor with Mob Rules.

Pictures and SFV wipe the floor with Mob Rules.

I'm aghast! :p That is actually a tough choice for me. Moving Pictures is probably #1 from that era. I think Mob and Vengeance are VERY close, though I give Mob Rules the edge. I won't repeat the reasons why, I've posted on this before.

+1 on Symphony X, Paradise Lost

Vengeance has some of my favorite Priest songs. As a whole, I'd say the only weak moment is Fever. The rest is really good, if a little bit commercial.

If you click on the link at the top of each thread you'll see the original list. I've been editing it to add write-in albums and graduated albums as we go along.

As far as Mob Rules etc. go, there will be a lot of wildcard albums advancing. Without checking, I think I was aiming at between 12 and 20, in addition to the two per year.

So there is no pressure to start voting out the 81 and 75 albums unless you think they are worse than the new ones entering the game.

+1 for Humanity (Scorpions).

Now to peruse my collection..

Albums I think could get somewhere on this forum
Sabaton - The Art of War
Sabaton - Attero Dominatus
Sabaton - Primo Victoria
Megadeth - United Abominations
Bruce Dickinson - Tyranny of Souls

Albums I like and would rank fairly high on personal rankings... but don't expect to succeed for even one round
Turisas - The Varangian Way
Shinedown - The Sound of Madness
Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell 3
Tony Iommi - Fused
WASP - Dominator
Lordi - The Arockalypse
Sixx AM - The Heroin Diaries

Albums I like but wouldnt even be high in my own list
Motley Crue - Saints of Los Angeles
Alice Cooper - Dirty Diamonds
Manowar - Gods of War

(order of which I think would do best :p - Manowar last cos even the manowar fans around here dont like it if i recall?)

Mick I agree, I admire him. Sure many people struggle with illnesses so thats only part of it, but he does come across as a genuinely nice guy who just gets taken advantage of by the rest (and by his ex wives) - doesn't get involved in any of the stuff the rest of them do and has to put up with a lot of comments like "He's boring he barely moves on stage" etc.

The rest.. I think Nikki has good drive and has matured a lot, but certainly reading the Dirt I just don't think I'd ever want to associate with any of them.

Tyranny of Souls is in as a 2004 selection.
My mistake, it was released in 2005.
I will make the switch.

Count me in among those who want Grace Under Pressure to stick around for a long time.
One of the finest albums, from one of the world's finest bands.

As Mosh said, not a weak moment.

Do you follow Nikki on Twitter? He drives me up a wall with his self-absorption on there to a point where I just unfollowed him before he could block me :p , but I suppose many artists (especially rock artists) sound like absolute tools on Twitter (Exhibit A: Joey Kramer; Exhibit B: DJ Ashba; Exhibit C: Sebastian Bach).

Totally agree about Mick, though. Very well-put. He goes through a lot, yet he comes across as an incredibly good guy.

For NP approved selections.

Amon Amarth - With Oden on our Side
