Rolling Stones -Voodoo Lounge (in fact one of the stronger Stones releases, ever)
Jeff Buckley -Grace
Slayer -Divine Intervention
Pearl Jam -Vitalogy

Yes to all these.

Another thing is the Sad Wings of Destiny album. Apart from the title track and The Ripper there is some real stinkers on this album...I don't see how it can survive so long...

Gotta disagree with you here. Personally, I really love Victim, The Ripper, Tyrant (!!!), Dreamer Deceiver, Deceiver, and Genocide. Admittedly, I prefer the Unleashed in the East version of half of those, but still, I think they're killer tunes. I also believe Victim of Changes and Dreamer Deceiver are the top two best performances by Rob in his whole career.

Voted for:
1984
Love At First Sting
Shout at the Devil

LOL @ Shout at the Devil receiving 100% of our votes. Has that happened before? Gotta admit the only album of theirs I take seriously is Dr. Feelgood.

Agreed with all of this. Side A gets all the attention but the rest is just as good.

I liked your post until you edited with this :(
1984 rocks

It does rock. It's actually one of my favorite Van Halen albums. I was stuck between that one and Balls to the Wall and just picked randomly. :p

I can't stand the drums, but I thought it was a fun album.

I feel like a terrible person for asking this, but, speaking of drummers, does anyone else differentiate Def Leppard by two eras: the two-arm and the one-arm era?

Nah man Prelude, Genocide and Epitaph is the proof that Priest still didn't really know what they wanted to do with themselves in 76 but they were on the right track...

I stand by what I said here. This album and Sin after Sin each contains stinky tracks...Priest gets it all together on Stained Class now that is an excellent album from start to finish. Sad Wings isnt...

I agree with you on Prelude and Epitaph (though I don't really think they're too bad; more like they're mediocre), but Genocide kicks ass. Well, at least the live one does (haven't heard the studio one in years admittedly). It is very different from their other stuff, but it's still an excellent track. If I may ask, what don't you like about it?

And even though it does have a dud or two, it still has 5 incredible tracks. I'd actually say 6, but we're clearly not on the same page regarding Genocide. :p

Uhmw well, Genocide is just Halford singing in his high octave voice over the most unimportant boogie rock track in the world. Listen to the studio version.

Okay, I can kinda see where you're coming from now. I still think it's a cool track, but it lacks a lot of energy in studio form. Which is my main problem with '70s Priest. All their awesome material comes from the '70s, but it just sounds so empty and lifeless in the studio. Genocide has got cool lyrics and the vocals sound great against the grooving guitars, but now I remember why I haven't listened to this version of it in a long time. :p

I basically have the same opinion about Sin After Sin as I do about Sad Wings: 5 excellent tracks and some filler.

*raises hand

Also, Sin After Sin/Sad Wings Of Destiny >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stained Class
easily

Re: Crue. There are several of their songs I like, but very few albums on the whole. The best of compilations are therefore pretty decent for me, and I've seen them live at a festival and enjoyed it. Saints of Los Angeles & Dr. Feelgood at the 2 albums I find most consistent. I do actually like the vast majority of tracks on Shout as well but not the versions on the album, the live ones from Carnival of Sins are better imo, they feel like they've got more grunt to them. I certainly admire Nikki Sixx's drive and ambition, but definitely not his lifestyle - although he has matured a lot in recent years and his book's were decent (although as one is a Diary it's not THAT important). Mick Mars I think doesn't fit in with the rest of them so much. My opinion on Tommy changes frequently, but Vince I think is a total idiot.

Re: Leppard. They can be a bit poppy at times, but I like em. Pyromania is a good album, quite like most their albums tbh but Pyromania is certainly one of the most solid, it's been a long time since I've listened to majority, and I can barely (if at all) remember Retro/Slang/Euphoria/X though.

Would've expected more support for Love at First Sting. Best album? nah, but I'd still put it above many of these and would've expected it to do better on this forum.

As much as I like Scorps, Love At First Sting isn't my favorite. It's pretty good but I much prefer Lovedrive and Blackout.

As for Crue, I like the Greatest Hits CD I have, but that's all I need. Agreed about Vince. He's a dumbass.

Sad Wings is my favorite Priest album and features 4 songs of my Priest Top 10 : Victim of Changes, Dreamer Deceiver, Tyrant, The Ripper. I love Stained Class too but it can't hold a candle to Sad Wings.

After Maiden, Priest is my favourite band so I can enjoy all these mentioned albums. Still, if I have to choose, there can only be one at the top of their seventies studio material:

Judas PriestSin After Sin (1977)

Filler? None. I think I'd give every track (besides Last Rose of Summer) 4 or 5 stars. This album features excellent drums of Simon Philips who was only 19 at the time of recording. “Let Us Prey/Call for the Priest” is special to me because of the harmonies in the mid-part, and I think this is the first real speed/power metal kind of song ever created. Its mid-piece is really the basis of the prime-elements in Helloween's music. “Starbreaker” has a cool guitar riff, “Dissident Aggressor” I like because of its intense aggression, the vocals, the riffs. Honourable mention for “Here Come The Tears”. What an emotion, what a melodies, what a build-up and what a vocals. Such deep and low vocals (check with headphones how it goes from left to right and back) and later high ones. Very impressive.
Most songs in the Priest catalogue have not reached the level of the mighty title track.

No question this forum loves the Priest and Sabbath.
Mid-range albums by these two are beating the best efforts of other bands
