Hazard > Neymar, not even close.

lots of you who predicted Brazil might be in the gutter if they lose vs. Belgium.

I would've given the penalty for that last push on Neymar mid air. He clearly pushed him enough so he doesn't intercept the ball. You can't punish whole teams because of one man's reputation.

You can't, but it's a very understandable error to make. After all, when you're in doubt whether it is the push that causes him to fall, or not ... you're going to assume he went down without reason.

Never cry wolf.

Belgium had a great goal and some dangerous moments, especially in the first half. But they had all the luck they needed to go through, and the luck their opponents missed. The before mentioned lucky 1-0, the penalty situation (not the Neymar situation; the other one with Kompany) and the Brazilians missing so many chances, at least two huge ones.

Tomorrow's matches have a lot to live up to. I expect England vs. Sweden to be a drab affair. The Slav Derby might be exciting (there will certainly be a great atmosphere) but nothing like the quality of Belgium vs. Brazil.

Sweden and Croatia wins please.

Sure Wiz.

Most out here like and prefer the Belgians thanks to the annoying drama from Brazilians. And thanks to Premier League / favourite player bias and all other shit that did not happen in this match. But when simply looking at this match, they were not much better, if better at all. They were better during that De Bruyne goal but not during the whole match. Japan overclassed Belgium for an hour. In this match Belgium was not clearly better either. How long can they keep that up with opponents that play at least as good?

To end positive about Belgium: Courtois was the man. He made this happen.

Belgium dominated Japan for 45 minutes but didn't create many chances. Japan's goals in the second half came against the run of play before Belgium changed their approach and swept Japan aside.

I agree that Brazil were overall the better side tonight, but Roberto Martinez surprised everyone and played a tactical masterclass in the first half. Thibaut Courtois kept them ahead in the second half.

Belgium won that match vs Japan because of one stupid blunder by the Japanese goalkeeper (the first Belgian goal). If that didn't happen, I doubt if the Belgians would have turned it around. I know, "if that happened" or "if that did not happen" does not count, and I am not taking away the spirit the Belgians had til the end to win that match with that last brilliant counter. But I do realize that they had luck. They needed unlucky or plain stupid moments from opponents.

Purely looking at the football, and the attractiveness of it, Belgium is not my number one team. For that, I want to see more than one or two brilliant counters per match. For that, I want attractive combination football, more than during a few minutes.

They can still change that!

Japan also had luck. The attack that led to their second goal started from a mistake by Kevin de Bruyne, of all people.

And they only got out of the groups because they received fewer yellow cards than Senegal and Poland decided not to attack in the last 30 mins of the last game of the groups for some reason.

Starting an attack does not have as much impact as ending it. They attacked all the time. Too much unfortunately, at the end. Harakiri!

The coach felt responsible and is gone now.
