Nicko McBrain

I'm looking forward to the book the most. I actually think it has the potential to be rather interesting. Bruce's book had way too much flying stuff (interesting kind of, but not something I care too much about) and Adrian's had way too much fishing stuff (I care not one iota at all about fishing, I made it maybe 30 pages before I had enough) so I'm hoping Nicko's is more about funny stories and anecdotes!

Always happy to see Nicko. Some bits:

  • he said they have a lot of stuff. They've recorded pretty much everything, the screens. Probably a lot of stuff coming up, you never know what's coming up.
  • he said he was happy to see Blaze again, he's also met Dennis. He loves Blaze and he's a great guy.
  • he thinks TXF and VXI are great records, and Blaze's studio performances stands out (especially ''Sign Of The Cross'', he added). Some phenomenal songs on those albums, which is why they played them.
  • ''Come Estais Amigos'' is one of his favorite songs. Like ''Infinite Dreams''.
  • he would love to play ''Afraid To Shoot Strangers'' again.
  • he said he loves to play with the Titanium Tart guys because they're younger and he can play as fast as he can. He added that Maiden have kind of slowed down a bit over the years, with all due respect. He calls them brothers. ''It's great to have the freedom of choice to play whatever song you want''.
  • he called the intro to ''Infinite Dreams'' his jazz work with the band. It works really well live. He said he can still play it, unlike stuff like Murders or Caught Somewhere In Time.
  • Rime is one of his favorite songs to play live, almost all Maiden songs are great to play live.

Well at least someone said what we were wondering. They have been recording all. Great news, there are many tours that need a live album.

Just look at his expression. "There are so many things I'm going to do to those recordings. This... that... oh, the possibilities for pissing off Maiden fans are endless!"

He said overall ranking changes each day, but since beginning of the video he stated that there is one which is number one and when AMOLAD came in he put it straight up there and never moved.
Songs which he mentions he likes: Fear of the dark (likes whole album just cause of that song), Paschendale, Lord of the light (possibly his favorite ever), The red and the black, Darkest hour, The parchment
Song which he mentions he doesn't like: Tailgunner (says overall whole album ain't that great)
I'm not surprised he listed POM, AMOLAD and TBOS in his Top 5 favorite albums (maybe AMOLAD over POM), he's said that before, but SJ and even Powerslave are a bit surprising (to some extent, I guess not). I expected TNOTB.

- we also have to add (at some point in the ranking): he said Killers is a dear album to him (he moved it above TBOS), SIT below TBOS and Killers, DOD above FOTD but below TBOS, he's not a fan of NPFTD sound, TNOTB below Killers, he loves POM sound, TXF above TBOS/FOTD/NPFTD, IM above SIT/TNOTB, SSOASS above SIT, VXI was put last right away (like NPFTD), BNW above TBOS but below DOD, TFF below TBOS, BNW, DOD and NPFTD(!).

It seems they all like ''Paschendale''. The new info is that ''Lord Of Light'' is one of his favorite songs. Maybe they could have played it again with him. He mentioned '' The Red And The Black'' being a favorite of his before (iirc), while I guess ''Tailgunner'' never really had a chance to be brought back, maybe if Bruce really pushes for it. He also said about ''Caught Somewhere In Time'' - ''what a song''. Sign Of The Cross'' is a mega song (the middle part is fast for him now), ''Moonchild'' an absolute gem of a song to play.

He still thinks that ''Hallowed Be Thy Name'' is the best song Steve ever wrote, followed by ''When The Wild Wind Blows'' and ''The Clansman''. He also noted that he never played Hallowed at the album tempo because it didn't work for him live, and now that album tempo (slower) works for the band, but he also added that Simon plays it very well.
