News 18th Studio Album discussion

From that interview...

Steve: “I think it’ll be an event. There’s the exhibition [the Infinite Dreams Experience]. And we’ve talked about different things relating to the songs, which I don’t want to give too much away about. But it’s the same old thing – you talk about stuff, and then you have to actually put it into practice. You just hope it’s all going to work out. It usually does, but you never know, haha.’

My theory/dream that they will do Running Free at Knebworth with special guests is alive and well, yee haw!
Never mind, I just read more and Steve and Bruce both say there's no plan to get anyone onstage. It's 'cheesy' apparently. Booooo!

But then what does Steve mean about doing "things with the songs" at Knebworth? Hmmmmmm. The dream lives on, methinks.

Also, the Bruce/Nicko 'spat' lives on. He says there's no plans to get Nicko up to "play 3 drums." Buuurrrrrrn. Our Nick would back himself to play the whole kit for Running Free, I'd wager.

Ah, this time of the month when the speculation and overanalysis swings towards "Yes, I think there will be another album, just hear me out bro..."

Never doubted the new album and probably never will, modified Bruce quote courtesy of A Real Dead One.

Any plans to start work on a new Maiden album?

Bruce:
“Would I like to do a new Iron Maiden album now? Yes. Would I like to do one starting next year? Yes. So over to you, Steve.”

Steve: “No. We haven’t had a band discussion about it yet. I know Bruce wants to do one. He said in an interview that I didn’t want to do one, which is not true. When he told me about it, I just said, ‘Yeah, maybe, we’ll see.’ At the moment it’s more important that we focus on playing live. Plus, Bruce is doing stuff with his solo project next year, so we’ll see.

Idk why, I guess it's because of Steve's wording (the: maybe, we'll see, focus now, mentions Bruce's tour), but I'm much more optimistic about a new album. And maybe Bruce is teasing with this ''starting next year'', the perfect timeframe, he knows his solo dates. If Adrian wants to write new songs (he said he likes to be creative), Steve doesn't even have to talk (to say) to the other band members - I mean, I doubt Janick wouldn't want, Dave writes 1 song, and Simon would love it.

It's wrong and you know it.

Nicko´s real Top 5:

1. Senjutsu
2. The Book Of Souls
3. The Final Frontier
4. AMOLAD
5. Dance Of Death

Nicko gets it.
He said overall ranking changes each day, but since beginning of the video he stated that there is one which is number one and when AMOLAD came in he put it straight up there and never moved.
Songs which he mentions he likes: Fear of the dark (likes whole album just cause of that song), Paschendale, Lord of the light (possibly his favorite ever), The red and the black, Darkest hour, The parchment
Song which he mentions he doesn't like: Tailgunner (says overall whole album ain't that great)

(Two tables because the forum software only allows 10 rows per table)

Interstingly enough, the only one that changes spots if we include the bonus tracks (like the 98 remasters) is TNOTB. For the others it doesn't affect their ranking.
FOTD has so much filler so this doesn't surprise me

For those who don't want to watch, here's his top 5:
5. The book of souls
4. Powerslave
3. Senjutsu
2. Piece of mind
1. A matter od life and death
The ranking seemed to get fucked up. I'm not sure he really meant to have the debut as the lowest ranked album. He also at one point had TXF clearly above NPFTD and FOTD but in all the moving about stuff on the board I think it ends up underneath them

Yeah, it was really haphazard how he arranged it and it seemed like, "eh, good enough" by the end of it. He seemed to just be in the moment of being an entertainer for the people in his restaurant. While some thought was put in here and there (AMOLAD being #1, for instance), I'm doubtful it's reflective of how he'd actually rank it if given time and thought (and proper tracklists so he could remember what songs were on what albums).

He judges it based on 1 track he likes - which is fair enough, probably couldn't remember all of them at the time. But we know now which are the tracks he likes the most on some albums:
K - Wrathchild
SIT - Alexander the Great
FOTD - Fear of the dark
TXF - Sign of the cross
VXI - Como estais amigos
BNW - Ghost of the navigator
DOD - Paschendale
AMOLAD - Lord of light
TBOS - The red and the black
SJ - The parchment

It's Nicko's favorites so who are we to argue? And it's only logical that the ones he didn't play on would be on the bottom.

I've never liked ranking the albums anyway because, like Nicko said, it could change tomorrow. Really the only thing I'm sure about are the 90's albums would be my least favorites.

I'm not really arguing at Nicko's ranking. He can rank how he wants.

I'm just sayings it's not definitive at all.

His ranking of the debut started out at around number 3 but then the awkwardness of moving all the pieces around, or even moving them all down one, to accommodate new entries meant that the debut went from 3 (initially well bove Book of souls, TXF, FOTD, NPFTD etc) to dead last.

My point really is that it was left in number 16 temporarily to move stuff around on the board for new entries but then never left that spot
