It means that one or a few people work together to spread a particular opinion under different accounts across various parts of the internet, in order to create the impression of a widespread sentiment.

But Joe Lazarus is absolutely delighted with his career.
And we all know that everyone’s life is just as they make it out to be on social media. ;)

It’s a fake grassroots campaign where a small number of people try to make it look like a groundswell of people actually believe something. Fake grass, thus astroturf. Capice?

I didn't wanna add onto my diatribe of a post because it's overlong as is, but a great way to ensure a topic becomes functionally impossible to discuss is to play both sides. That's not a contradiction. There are multiple regulars who have explained why they are unhappy with Simon in previous threads. There might've been some pushback from people who disagree, but that's to be expected. This is a forum after all, discussing topics is the whole point. Those regulars are not the same people as, blatant example in this case, folks like Kurt who joined the forum solely to hate on Simon, posting 53 posts within 3 days, exclusively dedicated to this topic. A poster like that is very clearly not arguing or posting in good faith, that is what's poisoning the well.

Prior to this topic, there was plenty of discussion. Granted, some of it heated, but that's not exclusive to this topic. I've seen (and been part of in some cases :D ) the wildest topics turn into forum warzones.

You can still criticize Simon and make your case. Either in this thread or in one of the other active ones. You might ruffle some feathers but that's how these things usually are. I don't think any of those newer account have the power or potential to ruin forum discussions to such a degree.
 
Personally, I think the band sounds tight with Simon, but I have also read rumours that there are now doubts within the band.
The question is whether that is this astroturfing campaign.
Could it also be that Steve was originally satisfied with his decision, but has since heard what Rush has done and now finds his decision a bit simplistic, and is really wondering if there might have been a more suitable drummer?
 
I'd like to think that's only a rumour with nothing to it. But that said, we know that the band is following Rush and know what they did. It's also likely that at least Adrian and Bruce are seeing them in the US this year (Leana posted a story during the first few nights of the Rush tour that she can't wait to see them and Alex is always Adrian's guest during Toronto shows).

But if it's true, they should go all in and hire Simon Phillips.

I saw adrian saying like "very good" to Simon at sofia show. I cant remember the song but he turned to him and shake the head like "yes" .i doubt they are not ok wirh him its just the people.
 
Maiden going back on their choice of replacement would be an enormous shift to how they usually operate; i.e. sticking by whatever decision they've made come hell or high water. The biggest singular case of Steve arguably changing his mind on something major band-related would be deciding to have a meeting with Bruce in late '98.

I'm not saying it couldn't happen twice, but this would be still unprecedented in many ways. The chosen replacement being replaced with someone new and after they've already had a successful tour and made a bit of a deal about how well it's been going? I don't see it.

What are the sources for these rumours? I'm just rather curious.

I could definitely see "the band is unhappy with Simon" becoming just another "a tour with Judas Priest in the works" and "Dave wants to retire" if they'll be around with this line-up for a handful of years, heh.

Um, didn't you actually find a sign pointing to the opposite - to dissatisfaction within the band?
That's something a teacher, for example, might do with a weak student who's trying hard and has managed to get something right once in a while.
It's not necessary for someone who's simply consistently very good, and everyone can see that and agrees.

Dont know,maybe but he did that. Bruce was the one who had a chat wtih steve because he was doing something wrong. It was the first dates of the tour

Live sounding production would have made it worse (like Tailgunner video), Steve seems to want everything to be ''live''. Why would you want a live noise in the studio, I don't get it, it's so bad.

So he’s influenced by other bands – in this case, Bruce’s solo projects.
 
The question is, why did Steve ignored Bruce's Accident of Birth, which he himself has said is a very strong album? Why does he choose to be influenced not by the best, but simply for the sake of change?

He has also said that Bruce's upcoming album is his best solo work ever. So will he use that as a reference point for the next Maiden album, or will he once again choose The Mandrake Project as the reference point?
