Bruce Dickinson

Finished my first full listen, and for me the first six tracks are clearly superior to the originals, but then it starts to come off the rails a bit.

“Shoot All The Clowns” doesn’t benefit from the added horns, and the emphasis on the lower vocal harmonies is weird. “Fire” is a mixed bag, but I think the original was more cohesive. “Sacred Cowboys” benefits from losing the opening scream, and the clean guitar accents are interesting, but the chorus loses some punch. “Tears Of The Dragon” is still great, but the original was basically perfect, so it’s still a step or two down.

The “live in studio” tracks are a curiosity, especially because they sound like live demoing with Roy rather than more live tracks from the sessions that became Alive In Studio A, but they’re nothing I’d come back to often.

At least the first six songs are all improved, IMO, rehabilitating some and helping others reach their full potential.

Bruce seems to really like his current producer. He also said that he always wanted Tears to have orchestration and that Change Of Heart is a beautiful song. About his solo albums: he said that with each album he tries to do something different and ofc retains some of the sound. With BTP he allowed to experiment and at the time he wasn't sure how far he could go with the musical things. He admitted that he should have been more adventurous. Skunkworks is also very experimental, but he passionately believes it's a fantastic record. He called AOB-TCW-TOS a ''golden period'' and that the albums kind of glue together. He noted the success of TMP and the solo band - so his evolution is towards the next album.

For the upcoming tour:
He said they will play some stuff from: BTP (more?), 2-3 TMP songs, ofc TCW and maybe ''Revelations''.

I don't expect many changes to his 2024 set, from BTP, yes, but other songs will probably be saved for the next tour.

Was hinted they could open with Cyclops

The first 6 tracks were always the better part of the album anyway, dramatic decrease in quality after that aside from Tears even on the original.

What a turd.

Just had a listen to the new BTP, and I really think the new versions of "Gods of War" "1000 Points of Light", "Laughing in the Hiding Bush" and "Change of Heart" are great. Especially "Gods of War" seems to finally have become the song it was meant to be.
As for the rest, I still prefer them in their original incarnations.

Thanks for reposting the comments.

Wow, what a prick. Too bad, since they made great music together for a while; but I’m glad Bruce is cutting the dead weight and moving on.

I might be in the minority but I prefer More Balls to the original Balls. It's probably because I always found the original to have quite a thin, rather dry sounding mix. This one has, pun intended, more balls. Yes, Tears sounds overblown but if you're going to go big, go big.

Think I'll buy a physical copy.

I got my CD today, haven't had a chance to listen to it, though. In an age where bands are paring down their physical editions, I can recommend getting the CD. There's a bigger booklet than the original release with a few pages of Bruce explaining how the original came to be and the rationale behind the remix, along with unreleased photos, including a collage of various takes from the cover photo shoot.

EDIT: Similar in size to the 2001 remaster booklet, which also had a few pages regarding the making of the album as well as alternate takes of the cover, additional photos, etc.

Just 2 songs imo, and Hell No is not a highlight.

This. Maybe plus Clowns too.

Such a shame. They're both a great songwriting duo, Bruce is the first to admit it, very natural - but I don't think he will or should make compromises now. I imagine he'll just use his demos, not the ones he co-wrote with him. Looking forward for Bruce working with his great live solo band.
