Your Top 5 Favorite Solos

Troodon'sTooth

Is Futureal Real?
Although Di'Anno, Dickinson, and Baley's lyrics are the second best thing in my opinion about Iron Maiden songs, the solos are what really take the cake in a song. What are each of your top five favorite solos. List threads are A-Ok!

1. Lightning Strikes Twice
2. Children of the Damned
3. Powerslave
4. The Prisoner
5. *tie between* Stranger in a Strange Land and Brave New World

Davey’s freak out solo on When the Wild Wind Blows.

Davey’s soulful first Powerslave solo.

Adrian’s heart-wrenching solo on Tears of a Clown.

Both Davey’s and Adrian’s explosive orgasmic solos on Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

People should specify which solos.

My top four are the four solos on Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. All tied for first place. Maiden's best instrumental section ever. Fifth place goes to the solo in Stranger in a Strange Land.

1. CSIT (H)
2. Powerslave (Davey, 1st one)
3. Stranger In A Strange Land (H)
4. BTATS (Both)
5. Tie between Clansman (Janick) and Tears Of A Clown (H)

Gaaah, narrowing it down to just five is tough. What's that? List them by each guitarist? Capital idea.

Adrian:
  1. Stranger in a Strange Land
  2. Isle of Avalon*
  3. Caught Somewhere in Time
  4. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
  5. The Book of Souls
*If this wasn't Maiden exclusive than Bruce's "Man of Sorrows" would sit here and everything else would move down a place.

Davey:
  1. Powerslave
  2. Alexander the Great
  3. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
  4. Sign of the Cross
  5. The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Janick:
  1. Blood Brothers
  2. Ghost of the Navigator
  3. The Man of Sorrows
  4. Wasting Love
  5. The Clansman

I can't be arsed thinking too deeply about this but here's the best ones from each player.

1) Both Powerslave solos from Dave, the whole section is phenominal ,H's solo and steve's fills in the first solo and harmony section, but the two solos from Dave absolutely steal the show.
2) H CSIT solo
3) Janick Blood Brothers

4. BTATS (Both)
Was considering these two as well. Best solos since Seventh Son of a Seventh Son IMO. Not sure which one I'd rate higher though, a part of me feels Janick actually plays the best Maiden solo since 1988 on that track!

I can't really think of a full list of 5 right now, but I'm gonna say my favourite which is both Dave and Janick's solo from Sign Of The Cross, I absolutely love them and they give the studio version a great kick at the end of the song

Oh yes, I'd forgotten of that song. They're great, particularly the last minute of it, phenomenal.

Actually, I think both solos beatutifully compliment the song.

Adrian's is perfect for painting the scenario of dropping the bomb.
Janick's perfectly paints the destruction of atomic bomb.

1. Powerslave (Dave's first solo)
2. The Evil that Men Do
3. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Adrian's first solo)
4. Dance of Death (Janick)
5. Alexander the Great (Dave)

The four that stand out to me:

1. Adrian in "Caught Somewhere in Time"
2. Steve in "Blood on the World's Hands"
3. Janick in "The Legacy"
4. Adrian in "Alexander the Great"

A lot of strong contenders for #5 - can't pick one.
