Blaze had a good-natured nag at the guys in the balcony during Wolfsbane's set, asked if the oxygen was too thin for them to stand up and make some noise!
I did read something about that in the Kerrang review of that gig. The reviewer compared how both Blaze and Bruce could command an audience - and spoke very favourably of Blaze.

Interesting. That was the 2nd ever gig with Janick. And the first if we don't count the secret concert, one day before this. Do you guys remember how (or if) he was introduced in a special manner?

Summer of 1983, Maiden opened for Judas Priest at the New Haven Coliseum. My first concert too. I've seen them 10 more times since, most recently June 17 2008 at Camden NJ. Fucking most awesome Maiden show to date!!!!!!!

Maiden opened for Priest? In 1983, Maiden headlined in the States.

Aren't you mixing this up with a different show? In 1982 Maiden opened for Priest in New Haven. It wasn't summer though: 9 October 1982

My first gig was the Give Me Ed... Tour, in Zagreb (Croatia) on June 17th 2003. I remember watching the Rock Am Ring live transmission just 10 days earlier, so it kinda spoiled the setlist. And I also have a bad thing to remember the gig by - my HCW stage pass, that I was stupidly wearing on my pants since the beginning of the show, fell off, which I realized a couple of songs before HCW itself. Also, my piece of cr*p Siemens cellphone's battery died while I was trying to call the person who gave us the passes.

But, the "curse" was finally lifted this summer in Split, Croatia, when I successfully managed not to lose the HCW pass.  :ok:

I remember Jan was introduced as the new boy during the usual band introductions in the encore, and got a huge cheer. His impact was huge, I'd never seen Dave Murray move around so much before but I guess it would have been embarrassing to be the only sod other than Nicko rooted to the spot! I think the general feeling in the crowd was that Janick had already proved himself to Maiden fans on Tattooed Millionaire and was already part of the family and a suitable replacement. No Prayer still hadn't been released so there were quite a few new songs to introduce as well (although Tailgunner and one or two others had been played by Tommy Vance on the Friday before the gig.)

Albie, I too remember that Kerrang! review; it was the one which basically said Adrian Smith wouldn't be missed, and went on to complain that it was too easy to get carried away by the start of a Maiden show and give them an easy ride... (if my memory serves, I'm getting on a bit now!)

Yes, on the Tattooed Millionaire tour with Bruce and at the Astoria in London, the rest of Maiden came on for an encore and did The Trooper. And I think I have told the story before now about how I missed that gig. :D

And I had recorded those tracks and played them to death before the gig - just so I would know them. I saw them later on during the No Prayer tour at the Wembley Arena.

That's right, and in a later interview Kerrang did with Bruce, he got a bit narked about those comments. And rightly so. But you can't take away the fact that Janik brought Dave out of his shell.

It was my Mothers birthday, yes. :)

And I do like reminiscing as well. We need some more old school fans to share these memories.

My first Maiden gig was Dublin '06. Was a rather awesome show, I must say. Hearing the album [AMOLAD] live rather obviously brought it to life, and was far easier to listen to than the album was for me at the time. And Fear of the Dark was just magical.

My first Maiden Gig was World Piece tour way back in August of 1983. It was also my first concert experience as well. Talk about stting the bar high. They opened for Judas Priest at the New Haven Coliseum.

My first maiden gig was watching the original line up in a crappy little club in Liverpool, probably 1978/79 .There was a full house of about 50 people crammed into it.I was given a t-shirt (maroon with Iron Maiden printed in black) which the band kindly signed in felt tip.unfortunately it wont fit me anymore.I can't believe I was once that slim!.

I also once saw Bruce Dickinson singing for a band called Samson, at the Liverpool Empire. They were second on the bill supporting Magnum.A little known band were third on the bill, and I mentioned to my mate that they would be big. They were called Def Leppard!

Thanks for sharing your memories, I like those old days stories!  :ok:

Here you could check which Maiden gig(s) you visited, if you like.

I think it was the 17 November 1979 one.

Thanks. It looks like the one.I noticed that they also played at the warrington Lion on the 24th November.can't believe I missed that one as it used to be one of my regular haunts.Saw Diamond Head there a few times. The atmosphere for them was brilliant, and they acknowledged the Warrington Lion crowd on one of their records ,but as usual i can't remember which one.

Bob Cattley! I liked the track kingdom of Madness .Live they were good but i wasn't too keen on them on vinyl, not heavy enough for my musical tastes. The owner of the limelight Club in Crewe is a huge fan (about 10mins from where I live). They have lots of tribute bands on, and I believe Bob Cattley hangs around there quite often. I only went to the gig to see Def Leppard as I'd just bought "Get Yer Rocks Off"

yeah.it seem to me that quite a few bands of that era couldn't produce their live 'heaviness' onto record, more so than bands today.Blue Oyster Cult, Scorpions to name a few, even down to Wishbone Ash who were surprisingly heavy live. Maybe its modern technology that helps todays bands.

Welcome, Andrew.
Sadly, I haven´t been to a Maiden concert yet. When they came to Argentina in 2004, I didn´t have enough money to afford the trip, tickets and hotel as I wasn´t working at that time. However, I hope to attend one show before I get buried
Luckily I could see Priest in 2005 and DIO last year, which were absolutely great both of them.

Cheers!
My first Maiden gig was in 2008, Brisbane Australia. Brilliant concert!

I dont have access to my own computer, though check e mails at internet cafes! My e mail address is rock-steady@live.com.au.
Be nice if you could e mail me!

I could be confused...it was along time ago and I do have Alzheimer's.
