Your First Maiden Gig ?

Well to my fault we are getting off topic........ lets just agree to disagree.  We all have different opinions on music present and past :ok:  The good thing though is Maiden has ruled for over 25 years and I just hope they can continue for another 25 :notworthy:

Listen to Opeth, Dark Tranquility and Early In Flames for starters...

Add Amon Amarth.  Melodic Death has little to do with the usual trappings of Death Metal, although there are plenty of DM bands that don't just try to outdo each other in terms of being more extreme.  You really want grind (specifically porn/goregrind) for that kind of ridiculous attitude... <_<

Grunge was a direct response to Hair Metal, NOT bands like Maiden and Judas Priest and other thrash/traditional acts.

Only partially true. Most of the biggest and earliest grunge musicians got their start playing punk and hardcore in the early 80s. Grunge was a movement which came together on its own terms. If it was a reaction to anything, they were reacting to their own frustrations with life in Seattle in the 80s.

Later, after Nirvana broke big, grunge became a reaction against hair metal. But it didn't start that way, and this anti-metal-reaction was only a small part of the story.

Edit to clarify what I'm saying here:
If there was an anti-hair-metal feeling associated with grunge, that was mostly coming from the fans and not from the musicians. I'm sure most grunge musicians also hated Warrant and their ilk, but guys like Cobain, Cornell and Vedder weren't making music to spite Kip Winger. They had better reasons for doing what they did.

Given that Nirvana released a song called "Aero Zeppelin", that doesn't surprise me.
They also covered a Kiss song ("Do You Love Me?").

True, although melodeath has its own trappings. Have an ultra-clean production, keep the songwriting in a uniform manner, don't try to offend the listeners with any chromatic riffs and keep on pouring out the gooey, cheesy melody.

Again, true. The amount of these BR00TL GORE DETH KILL FUK bands on MySpace has contributed to the saturation of the metal scene. Although I should make a different thread commenting on the internet's effect on metal in general since it's off-topic. Any good band on MySpace, I've already heard about. TrooperEd, I can't help but wonder which death metal bands you have heard, after all, I'm the extreme metal advocate around here. If bands like Devourment and Cannibal Corpse come to mind, I can't blame you for considering death metal to be garbage.

Oh, and to stay on topic, my first Maiden gig was 31/08/05.

Dang!  I was trying to look up the song on google but kept putting in Aero-Zep and got no results.

"Aero Zeppelin" is a rock song by Nirvana, recorded at the Reciprocal Recording Studios on January 23, 1988. Its only official release was as track 13 on the Nirvana album Incesticide in 1992. Few versions exist, the best known being the studio version and a live version, recorded at the Community World Theatre in Tacoma, Washington on the same day as the studio session.

"Aero Zeppelin" is unique when compared with other songs by Nirvana due to its light beginning style. The main riff has an oriental sound, although it speeds up and becomes more 'aggressive' as the song progresses. The lyrics, available in the posthumous Journals, are a general attack on conformity and mainstream '80s pop culture. Throughout them, it mentions topics including songwriting, fashion and fan devotion. The title combines the names of two classic rock bands: Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin.

My first gig was in Largo, Maryland, Somewhere on Tour in Jan 07.

From Oz, I haven't seen Maiden since 92.  I was on a flight last week between LA and Sydney and got talking to the bloke sitting next to me who paid for an airfare from Syd to Tokyo to see Maiden last year...big dollars to see a show.  Regretfully, I should have done the same.  The AMOLAD tour must come out on CD, otherwise I will go insane...
