USA Politics

In historical rankings of US presidents, Reagan has been steadily declining. The latest APSA poll has him at 16th where he was once 6th

Yeap, I would bet for 4th place but 6th seems quite right too. Strange to see how perspectives change, that was not so long ago or so it seems to me.

@Diesel 11 still 16th is not too bad.

It's morbidly fascinating that we have people claiming Biden to be evil incarnate, the catalyst for WW3 and so on. At the same time we have Trump being entirely unhinged and making threats of annexation to Mexico, Canada, Greenland, Denmark and Panama. He refused to rule out military action against a NATO ally. But Biden is the warmonger, clearly.

Wait to see first what of all the above actually happens. We judge presidents by their actions not words. Trump clearly try to maximise his gains by throwing stuff out there (though there's method in madness) and others bite as fishes.
For Canada, Trudeau was the one that fucked up the most by not replying strongly & Greenland PM was happy to accuse Denmark of colonial practices, after Trumps tweet. And I was terrified by the weakness of Denmark's reply. This is not Trump's fault, it's the end result of being fully aligned with US just as Canada did under Trudeau and this is the taste of that medicine.

Panama's reply was appropriate and in order.

Yes, it will be utterly pathetic if US swallows Greenland but at least we'll have some clarity what means to be a vassal (as if Nordstream wasn't enough), which is exactly what we are and what will always be as long as we rely to a country an ocean away for our security.

At least with Trump we take it in the face, with other presidents same end result but under the illusion of friendship /alliance, all nine yards.

Trudeau should have looked Trump in the eyes and told him that the US could be the 11th province and we'd give everyone health care, and then Trump would have fucked right off about this stuff, as long as the story never got out.

When I read that I could not believe my eyes and later when I made sure I didn’t read wrong, I thought precisely of you, how you must be feeling. Trudeau proved to be too little of a leader. An Emperor’s Naked moment and he was naked all along.

Eh, you know that's not what would have happened. Trump would have gone public and whined about how Meanyhead Trudeau threatened him and America. There's no bigger group of crybabies than MAGA.

"Wait and see"? We all know that had Biden said anything remotely close to that you'd be writing essays about how he's the worst person to ever exist. Yet with Trump you are always charitable. Your behavior and responses on this are expected and transparent at this point. I'll leave it at that, before we get warnings for "bullying" someone who continuously posts in bad faith.

No, don't worry. I've done my best to mediate, but it takes two to tango. If someone is unwilling to take an outstretched hand that has been offered repeatedly and with the best intentions, even my patience is used up at some point. 5 has done nothing but repeat the same things over and over as if it were the first time, completely ignoring every attempt made in any conceivable temperament by other members to address and discuss them. At this point he's actively provoking hostile responses and I'm not going to protect him anymore.

EDIT: For the record, this has nothing to do with whether I agree or disagree with him on his opinions, it's about his style of engagement with others.

Wait and see, as of there won't be any military action. We know Trump by now. Biden he is not skilled to play like that, nor his script writers.
It was a terrible thing to say but the reactions (or lack of) by Canada, Greenland and Denmark freaked me out more.

But there's another wait and see.
I remember when Trump started to take hard on China, American Press & Democrats were strongly against. Enter Biden and he doubled down!

Wait and see same thing happening this time round with Artic. Next administrations (no matter the party) to doubling down on Canada, Greenland and Norway. There will be no military force rather than a spheres of influence style exercising of soft power upon them. It's already happening, my point is that it will continue after Trump under GOP or Democrats all the same.

Oh, you're right, although it would have come out differently, because Trump has to look like a winner. But it's his unique, small mindedness that has allowed him to seize upon this particular line of insult.

LOL at Bannon being surprised that South African Elon Musk supports immigration for the middle classes.

If anyone had any doubt as to why he ran for re-election.

And he got away with everything. Not only didn't he face any consequences for his illegal actions, we have people screaming (and lying) about "lawfare". But as always: There are separate justice systems for the rich and powerful.

Ultimately, that's the issue. They could have removed him immediately, and the cowards didn't. Mitch McConnell had the ability to get rid of Trump, and he chose not to because he thought Trump was already done.

It should have never taken 4 years for fuck sake. He should have been arrested on Jan 7th.
These are the key issues imo. Republican inability/cowardice plus Garland’s justice department moving glacially slow on pursuing legal action.

Pretty sure if I very publicly incited a riot anywhere it would not take 3 years for the legal system to have charges pressed against me.
