USA Politics

As for why Trump won, I honestly think it's much simpler than some here are making out.

It's obvious to anyone with a properly functioning brain that hasn't been melted by fox news that Trump is an idiot, a liar and a grifter.

The fact that millions of Americans don't realise this, and actually think he's some kind of genius just shows how monumentally stupid the average person is.

We have a similar situation in the UK with people backing Farage/Reform.

These politicians propose simple "solutions" to complex problems. And because your average person is a total MORON who can't absorb an answer that lasts more than 2 sentences, they go for the guy saying the simple thing that goes along with their in built bigotry.

These people weren't interested in politics beforehand, because it was complex and boring. But now there's some loud gobshite telling them that if they just get rid of the immigrants and the LGBT people then everything will be better. So now they're activated and caught up in a cult of personality.

The old political establishment meanwhile has spent decades working for business interests instead of making things better for workers and the general public, so enthusiasm for them is at an all time low.

The world is looking absolutely fucked right now, and I can't even escape to Europe easily because the Brexit mob fucked that up.

+1

Today, Russian drones flew into Polish territory. Some of them posed a threat and were shot down by the Polish military. Trump is avoiding the question of whether he knows about it :x The US also severed agreements to combat disinformation from China and Russia couple days ago so this is fun.

Also, some people are cunts, and just get a kick out of the attention they get for being obnoxious, toxic cunts, and the right wing have realised these are a good group of people to target

This is what I've always thought about the rise of far right in the world.
"Trump, Lepen, Farage etc. are the revenge of the poor, uneducated, no hope in hell bastards to a system that is consistently failing them, and us, for dozens of years. Problem is we are all going to pay the price, first and foremost them."
My opinion is still the same and I completely agree with what @Trevoire wrote.

I am from the UK and for the record am not a MORON or overly interested in Politics. I am however concerned about the ongoing overpowering numbers of people crossing the English Channel, and not because i am a racist either, it`s safety and coping with the numbers in question . I don`t see much in the way of managing it from the current Government ,hence the interest in Reform i have seen for sure as we all have here.

From what i have seen the left is equally full of MORONS and Gobshites too and having a different opinion on a matter doesn`t require smallminded name calling as is the norm since the Brexit result went the wrong way for some.

I'd tell anyone who entertains voting Reform the same I'd say to AFD voters or other far right parties:

Voting for fascists will not solve any of the issues you care about.

There's a reason why those parties offer simple solutions to incredibly complex issues, and why they laser focus on populism instead of concrete and realistic legislation.

And yeah, there might be "MORONS" on the other side of the political aisle as well, but it's nowhere near to the unhinged idiocy displayed by the far right. We are seeing in real time how voting for a despot in the US is fucking up the country, the world wide economy, global geopolitics; how none of the promises are held, how none of the issues are fixed (many are getting even worse because of Trump!). So, I have to agree with Trevoire's overall point and I'd ho even further:

One has to be an enormous fool and ignorant of basic politics and history or utterly blinded by blatant propaganda to think that the far right parties of Germany, the UK, Italy and so on will magically solve all issues.

The problem aren't immigrants. Neither queer minorities. It's the richest and most powerful fucking up the planet, getting richer and more powerful by the day, while we the poor fight against each other instead of showing class solidarity and holding those accountable for the global misery we are experiencing.

We have left wing trouble causers here not just right wing that is a fact but often ignored by main stream media

Just to be clear i never mentioned anything about queer minorities.

My views are purely UK based and i can assure you what ever the right or wrong of it all is this country is a shit show and shows no sign of changing anytime soon under Labour or quite possibly anyone else.

I only dropped in here to have a read but just get sick of the constant name calling of anyone with a remotely right wing view, same most places not just here. I aren`t in anyway a `far right nutter`, but the left address everyone as that if they don`t agree with them and it`s tiresome.

I understand that, but any moderate right wing has some sort of responsibility to not let the extremists take over, like we have seen in the US. The GOP from today are far removed from what they were 10 years ago precisely because the moderates rolled over. Take your fight with the extremists who want to distort what being Right means.

It is quite puzzling to me when people characterise everyone who is swayed to vote for a populist party or politician as a moron, seeing as many of them in the past voted for the left-wing or moderate parties that these people support. Take for instance Reform in the UK gobbling up a large share of the white working class labour vote. Did these people only become morons when they stopped voting the way that the liberal middle classes instructed them to? Or should the left be doing a better job of retaining the 'moron' vote?

The right is just as guilty of name calling. Not sure about the UK in particular, but both in Germany and the US conservatives are calling left wingers "groomers", pedophiles, degenerates and similar things on a daily basis. Funnily enough the majority of cases of convicted child sexual abusers seem to be conservatives. Curious that.

Furthermore, you might not have issues with queer minorities for example, but if you vote for a party that will cause issues for them even though you only do so for "justifiable reasons" (e.g. immigration, I guess) you are still giving support to that party.

Also, I'm sorry but the world is descending into fascism and all these far right parties are making everything worse; I have no interest in not calling extremists out and I have no sympathies for those who call the left "snowflakes" and "easily triggered" getting offended over namecalling.

They don't become morons; they were and continue being morons. Anyone falling for the obvious lies and blatant propaganda of far right populist parties is woefully underinformed at best or outright malicious at worst.

Trying to push the blame onto the left is disingenuous.

In that case, if a huge chunk of the populace (enough to win democratic elections) are morons (predominantly the people that disagree with you of course, conveniently) what do you propose to do? IQ test to be eligible for voting?

I am not offended i can name call and slag off with the best of them but find it tedious and try to avoid that sort of thing just because someone doesn`t share my opinion, regardless of the subject.
The name calling from the left is more visible than from the right in the UK as we have a left biased media, certainly TV. You tube is a more even mix albeit a dangerous rabbit hole obviously.

Name calling is for school playgrounds is my opinion and that was my main point of posting on this thread regarding the view of the `right`

I would like some data on that.

That being said, reality tends to have a non-rightwing bias regarding some things (in the U.S., explaining how tariffs work would be "left biased"), and any mentions of human rights (that defacto are law) are quite often labelled as just being "left-based" in the current political climate all over west.

Left-biased media???

When it comes to UK newspapers, the majority are unashamedly right wing (The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Sun, etc.) and in some cases blatantly xenophobic (The Daily Mail, Daily Express).

Regarding TV news, I still have to find a left-leaning channel to watch, so perhaps you can recommend me one. :)

BBC , Channel 4 as i mentioned above. Guardian i suppose in written press but yes there are many right wing papers, i should have highlighted the mainly TV part of my post.
