Regarding the pardons, there is no doubt the President is given essentially unlimited power of pardon. It is not a giant shock, despite any past declarations, that he would pardon his son. My primary problem with pardons in general are those that happen after the election. If there were to be any "pardon reform" and that is highly unlikely, there should be a window from day 1 of early voting to January 20th where they are not permitted in an election year. You can pick most any President in the past many decades and find some really shady pardons.

Fantastic proposition!

I would really like an explanation for these two
Woman who embezzled $53M for Dixon, IL to spend on a pretty lavish lifestyle
A PA judge who took kickbacks in exchange for sending kids to a private juvenile prison

The explanation is right there in the link:
"A Biden administration official told CNN the latest commutations were not individual decisions and instead it was a uniform decision granted to people who met certain criteria, like having a track record of good behavior while on house arrest."

That's the explanation. That being said, it's pretty dumb, or perhaps the key word is "lazy", to not have a brief individual review of those who meet those criteria, to avoid pardons for crimes such as these.

I should have phrased it as "I would like a good explanation "

We're not getting it as, obviously, solely a criteria approach isn't a good way to go about it.

"A brain fart" is probably the best explanation for this we can find.

An unfortunate president, but a great diplomat. One of the few in his position I genuinely believe wanted to change the world for the better.

Nixon wasn't that bad.
Even leaving aside Watergate, the war on drugs and the bombings of Cambodia alone tank his presidency.

Bush Jr. was quite low but between him and Biden I choose him any time.
No Child Left Behind, the Patriot Act, the illegal invasion of Iraq, Abu Ghraib, and by the end of his presidency the country was in a recession that he failed to combat.

Come on, man.

He was not perfect but seeing what we got post Reagan I consider him better than most after him.

We better agree to disagree on that one. In my opinion Biden is hugely responsible for such things that you wouldn’t accept, like war in Ukraine, closest to WWIII since ever, Nordstream, inflation in Europe & vassal-isation of EU, genocide in Gaza, lawfare against political opponent, most shameful pardon ever, border crisis, beginning of the end for dollar dominance (actually a good thing but still) and more.
I know and remember how terrible Bush Jr. was but imo Biden is even lower. Only the fact that he okayed to cross the one Russian red line after he lost the elections and without consulting the president elect tells you everything you need to know.
I felt sorry about him after the “coup d’état” by Obama and company last summer but I was wrong: He took what he deserved. Good riddance.
We have talked again and again about those things in this and other threads, nothing left unsaid, it’s good to just agree to disagree sometimes.
