USA Politics

Sometimes I wonder what the point of this thread is when 99% of everyone on here agrees with each other since most stuff on here is pro-left wing and all of it is just preaching to the choir.
A good amount of posters here are also not American and come from predominantly left wing and/or free-thinking countries or countries under right wing regimes.

this post brought to you with absolutely zero research

I'm still confused, but no big deal. It just doesn't make sense for any band's forum to have a politics section. I know I've gotten involved, but it still seems strange and out of place to me.

It’s just a thread, not a section.

I could make a thread called “Socioeconomics of Transgender Werewolves in Narnia” and it would be equally fine, because it’s the General Discussion area.

I can’t think of a single forum I’ve been on that doesn’t have some politics related thread. The dream theater forum (also unofficial) has a whole sub-forum for politics.

One thing about this thread is there isn’t really much talk about issues. It tends to be about elections and (for the last four years) Trump drama. Now there’s room for actual policy debate with Trump gone, so maybe the thread will evolve in that way. It would be interesting, you would probably find a lot of disagreement even among the lefties of the forum.

Absolutely. We've been so focused on the character-driven, amoral shitshow of the last four years, that we don't even know what political discussion truly is anymore. I'm so excited for politics to be the boringness of "which senator voted for this and which didn't" instead of "which fucking radical asshole tweeted something about nasty women".

One thing that I didn’t really think about over the last four years that hit me this weekend was that, normally, news stops during the weekend. Usually congress goes home and nothing happens for two days. That wasn’t a thing while Trump was tweeting and constantly creating drama.

We never had a break. Because of the President using Twitter like an 13 year old, we were forced to interact with politics every hour of every day. Love him or hate him, Conservative or Liberal, there's no doubt that social media negatively impacted his presidency.

There have been some (heated) debates here about social matters. Racial issues.
Police violence, weapon possessions, shootings. These matters are connected to which kind of politics one would desire.

I feel this part of the forum has grown more towards the left, and the right wingers of the past have changed and/or stay silent and/or left. At times, I even felt I was the only one who was truly worked up about matters. A member called SinisterMinisterX made discussions very difficult because the slightest criticism on the USA would hurt his gut. We've come a long way and I feel non-USA citizens are more accepted now. They are allowed to criticize without having to hear they are not from the nation.
