USA Politics

Right, we’ve never been invaded successfully
I suppose you could consider the various Confederate campaigns of the early-to-mid Civil War too...

Now I just wanna go back home and wargame the Civil War for awhile. Womp womp.

None of the invasions you keep bringing up resulted in a US defeat or annexation by a foreign power.

If you want to dig up some 19th century campaigns from the Mexican American war or perhaps some of the frontier conflicts with indigenous peoples, knock yourself out.

Ever play Hearts of Iron? That’s a nice course in not only global geography but global natural resources.

I know, I originally wanted to say, "you just made an important clarification", then I forgot and thought about wargaming stuff.

Yeah, I'm a huge Paradox fan. I play mostly EU IV but HoI is also quite good.

Ireland?!!! That's insane. Mind you, the Independent is a bit counter-populist sensationalist these days, I don't find them very reliable any more.

Yep, data sources and the motivation behind a survey factor heavily.

If I wanted to conduct a survey showing how ignorant Americans are, I could go to NASCAR events and ask random people about European politics and most likely get the type of response that corroborates that goal.

I could probably ask that same group about a subject like classic American cars and they’d sound like scholars.

It’s like the Monty Python skit where they ask someone like Kant about British Premier league football.

Or that foreigners have the same intelligence as penguins (both scored 0 at the quiz), so they get chucked in the zoo

The only formal education I had on European matters was an advanced placement European History class in high school that wasn’t required for graduation. Even then, there was very little geography involved.

On an earlier point: trump is a known germaphobe.

I'm willing to bet most British people would also be bad at this.

And I think you're underestimating the British. A random brit does not know where Mexico is? Or India or Argentina? These are big and known countries on other continents, as is Ukraine to people from the States.

Keep in mind that we do football and they don't. The extra difference between football and handegg is that former is being played all over the world with world class teams all over the world. So if you're a British football fan you'll know where Mexico or Argentina are.

You've never visited the estate where I live.....

“America have inferior potassium, my country have greatest world potassium”

“Why Americans so foolish to not enjoy
Sport of other nations?”

“Anericans so dumb! Hamburger make fat.”

Heard it all before — I lived in Europe for half a decade in the 90’s when tbey sent me over there to help sort out a violent disagreement over how to pronounce words like “telephone” that some former socialist republic was having.

The clichéd criticisms of the US are just as tiresome as the stale unquestioning jingoism on display by many people in the US.
