USA Politics

The GOP is , wisely, pushing the vote for us down ballot to counteract Hillary ... WSJ poll had Hillary up by 7, but 53% wanted a GOP Congress to counteract her.

Some Dems are hoping for some kind of wave election, but that is unlikely in they biggest example ever of a lesser of two evils kind of election. Hillary has massing negatives and they will probably get higher as we go along with the daily Wikileaks stories .. few of which make her look good at all.

Safe bet that this will be a very low turnout election, I think so many people are just disgusted with both of them.

I think the Dems will get the Senate; I think the House will be closer, but not in control. It'll imperil Paul Ryan, though - he will almost assuredly need Democrat support to pass any legislation.

They probably will get the Senate, but probably by 50-50 or 51-49 ... the problem the Dems have is that the map is in favor of the GOP in 2 years, that with an off cycle election, a most likely a still unpopular Hillary as President, and 10 years of Dems running the Presidency, and a a general desire for "change" all works against them, probably get it back to a GOP advantage in the 53-47 range give or take 1 or 2 seats. So, Dems in peril in 2018 will probably not be too eager to push anything too controversial to try to save their seats between now and then .. like what Warren/Sanders will push for

If this is not symbolic of the entire election, I do not know what is

Police in Lawrenceville, Ga., are investigating whether a Hillary Clinton campaign bus illegally dumped human waste there, according to multiple reports.

The incident occurred on Grayson Highway early Tuesday, while the vehicle promoting the Democratic presidential nominee was between campaign stops, CBS 46 News said.

CBS 46 News reported that a Lawrenceville businessman took several photos of the Clinton campaign’s “Forward Together” tour bus dumping waste into a storm drain. The man’s pictures showed liquid seeping out from underneath the Clinton bus.

Police responding to the scene found scattered toilet paper and a foul smell.

WSB-TV 2 News added that an employee at O’Reilly Auto Parts along Grayson Highway also observed someone from the bus dumping raw sewage nearby.

Gwinnett County hazmat units have since cleaned up the mess, and CBS 46 News reported that the Gwinnett County Stormwater Management and the State Environment Protection Department are now involved in the investigation.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC), which is affiliated with the Clinton camp’s tour bus, on Tuesday apologized for the incident.

I hope I'm not the only one who's beginning to feel the hatred towards Hillary is hyperbolic in order to make the race tenser, right?

I think the daily wikileaks dumps have a lot to do with that ... if not for Trump, she would have the lowest ratings of any major candidate in recent memory ... if not ever. I said it before, her biggest plus is running against Trump and Trump's is running against her. Had either party nominated someone with any kind of credibility, this race would be long over.

Reactions: RTC
I'm not going to deny Hillary is an extremely uninspiring candidate for the Democrats, but even I think the hatred towards Hillary is over-blown at this point. Hillary is by far the better of the two candidates, but that's like comparing a flawed politician to the anti-thesis of political discourse...literally.

I think her main problem is her evasions, half truths, flat out lies, and the idiotic trend of deny, evade, and gradually admit mistakes when there is no other choice ... which is why this email thing has dragged on for so long.

Yeah, she has a resume, but if people do not believe what she is saying, that pretty much undercuts every word out of here mouth. The recent "I have a public position and a private position" deal does not help that along with the rest of her paid Wall Street speeches ... in those, she actually makes some sense, but it is at odds with the nonsense she is spewing out on the campaign trail.

Really, what does she stand for that she has not talked out of both sides of her mouth?

This election really has nothing to do with policy (sadly) and everything to do with personality ... I guess I would take her over Trump in that department, but I think she is paranoid and has a big time vindictive streak at Nixonian levels.

It's weird, but Hillary has always drawn antipathy, even when she was first lady. Here's an old New Yorker article from 20 years ago that discusses it.
http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1996/02/26/hating-hillary

One theory is that she reminds a lot of people (men, mostly) of a mother-in-law or crabby schoolteacher figure and that draws negative connotations.

Comparatively, I'd say she has about an average amount of baggage for a career politician.

When Bill was running, she had the co-presidency statement, fired the travel office, and headed up the health care reform effort, and called the accusations against Bill's cheating as a "vast right wing conspiracy" ... unlike most first ladies, she got openly involved in the day to day politics. Which is a bit tricky because no one votes for or confirms a spouse, they are just there by marriage. Several have had a fair to great amount of power behind the scenes, but in public acted almost like a non political head of state (Mrs. Obama and Laura Bush for example)

RTC drunk political discourse, this'll be fun.

Mostly a response to Bear, but let's establish traditional politicians aren't the worst thing in the world, as well as lying to the public for the greater good. Plenty of great modern politicians did it, like Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Pedro II. We all do it as humans, and sometimes, the best thing to do on a broad scale is to tell a lie. I could go further back in history to the likes of Gustavus Adolphus and Marcus Aurelius too. We need to expect that human flaws are human nature, and even those who are to assume the strongest position in government have them. But Trump's flaws extend far beyond that. I don't see Hillary's flaws really extending beyond someone trapped between a rock and a hard place.

There is lying about Foreign Policy, war goals, pushing the limit on policy claims/results which people get ...the way she handled the whole email deal was just piss poor, different story after different story, deny then admit, then deny again, then shift blame, then admit, then deny, then shift blame couched in a half assed apology, etc. is on a different level than "I created 100,000 jobs" when it was some number less than that because they ignored 2 years of stats. Lying about her email server has nothing to do with the greater good ... when the real reason behind this to start with was probably to avoid her emails going public as they should under the Freedom of Information Act.

Beyond that, it is just stupid politically, it made a 1 month story into a 18 month story.

Trump is a scumbag, no doubt about it ... but Hillary is too, just for different reasons and maybe to a lesser degree .. but still a scumbag. I think the future Wikileaks stuff that will come out between now and the election will keep reinforcing that, if any of this put her in a good light, she would have released it herself some time ago.

Well, she got poor marks with the health care deal for moderates and conservative Democrats as well. He unpopular ratings are above 50% .. so certainly Republicans, but also very high with people under 35, and with some blacks not forgetting her "They are often the kinds of kids that are called ‘super-predators.’ No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel.” quote.

Personally, I think the "connects with people like me" desire from a lot of voters is stupid, but she really does not connect with many people, Bill excelled at that, she sucks at it.

I dunno. I think part of it is also that people are weighing the nature of Hillary's candidacy as the likely first female president, and she is not exactly what people would think for that place in history. Compare to Obama, who had a squeaky clean public image when he first ran, and is still very popular now.

Hillary got damn lucky Trump ran. I don't know that a Ted Cruz could have beaten her. But Marco Rubio or Jeb? Yep.

Rubio wouldn't be a certainty, but would have the full backing of the Republican Party, unlike Trump.

Hillary came off great tonight, a much clearer win than the last one.

Trump called her a nasty woman. That will be the only thing people remember about this debate.

Hillary beat the shit out of Trump. Trump almost did OK for the first 30 minutes, then he lost his shit when she accused him of being Putin's puppet, and it got worse from there for him.

Trump refused to say he'd accept the election result. That's frightening.
