USA Politics

I can understand why they may not want to "out" him unless and until they are fairly certain he's the guy, as they don't want a lynch mob or another Richard Jewell situation.

I think that's the key here. Question is, which media reported it, and who has the picture? The media? Then what makes them so certain it's the right guy? Or the investigators? They may not want to release the picture until they're dead certain. This is something where mistakes can be fatal.

The authorities have the video, and I presume they either have not yet provided it to the media or have asked the media not to run it yet. The video supposedly came from a Lord & Taylor surveillance camera. The Richard Jewell situation was the government's fault, as they actually blamed him initially. Here, it would be easy to release the video and say "We don't know that he's the culprit, but we want to question him and we could use the public's help in identifying and/or locating him." Maybe that is the next step in case they can't find him and bring him in quickly and quietly.

90% of the Americans supports
90% of the Democrats in Senate supports
90% of the Republicans in Senate does not support

Thank you Republicans in the Senate! These idiots have no clue what goes on in their society. And also no good arguments for blocking this legislation. Now they can fatten their wallets thanks to the lying weapon lobby. I ask the staunchest Republican supporter to watch this whole video and tell me why this was a good outcome:
(Obama starts at 4.44)

I'll say this, I really did not care strongly one way or another about this bill, it might have had an incredibly minor effect on gun sales to those that should not have them, but I tend to doubt it would have done much. This whole deal was about saying "look, we are doing something" even if the "something" would have done nothing to prevent the recent shootings that this wave of anti-gun hysteria is about.

Not really politics, but this is pretty bad

'Like a nuclear bomb': Deadly fertilizer plant blast devastates Texas town"

http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/18/us/texas-explosion/index.html

That is a pretty nice town for a place alongside the highway, it was founded by Czech immigrants and they have an incredibly bakery there as well as some nice places to eat with some traditional Czech dishes. They also hold a Czech-fest every year which draws a fair amount of people to the town.

I don't know, background checks seem very much like a common-sense thing to me. It would probably not do much, but it seems like something that should be done.

And I saw that. Town looks destroyed - I wonder what the total size of the blast was.

I agree there. It's not perfect, but it is pretty good - and major immigration reform has eluded the last two presidents. Hopefully this bill passes and it becomes law, because I think it would help on all the issues. I have never had a problem with eVerify nor with border securing, as long as companies are fined for breaking the law. It's pitch is close to perfect.

Totally wrong.
I was sure I posted in the 100,000.

CNN reporting death toll is 35 now in West, TX ... they are covering this heavily on the news here, the images are pretty bad, that was a massive explosion. There are still more missing and am afraid will add to the the number of dead. It is really a shame, I have been there 3 or 4 times for generally short stops on road trips, but it was such a nice town with really nice people in it.

Jesus.

Tonight has been insane. Starts off with a shooting at MIT, which you assume that is a standard US-style school shooting. Turns out the bombing suspects jacked a car, killed an MIT police officer, and were chased to Watertown by police, which is being reported they threw bombs at the pursuing cops. Pretty much the entire BPD and National Guard are in Watertown hunting.

The first suspect was killed in a shootout, the second is currently at large.

According to NBC two Boston Marathon bombing suspects are brothers, aged 19 and 20, and legal permanent U.S. residents of Chechen origin, law enforcement sources say.

Hope the catch the second one to find out why they did it, but I have a feeling he will end up dead as well.
