UEFA EURO 2020 (2021)

Sweden seem to always be able to deliver at a decent level. Even without top, top players like Zlatan. They aren't spectacular, but always seem to perform.

Whereas we (i e. Norway) have one of the top goalscorers in the Bundesliga, but the team as a whole never seems to reach that level of solidity.

Strangely enough, due to Polish loss, Oranje plays vs Czech Republic. We have a very bad record against them.
3 victories, 3 draws, 5 losses! Of which two important ones: Euro 2016 qualification match and Euro 2004.

Hoping times have changed now.

Good draw for Cro. Let the tough foes right now, so we can see whether we have what it takes to play the final stages of the tournament. Team spirits should be up, they are a generation-transitional team who had to travel and play two away games in the group stage which is unprecedented. Nobody will blame them if they don't manage to beat Spain, and if they do, it will be a grand motivator.

Plenty of drama in group F but it all ended in status quo ante bellum - same result in both games and the table stayed as it was. Hungary came close to eliminating ze Germans, and the only team that was not out of the tournament at one time during the match was France.

But in the end, Germany probably ended up with the more favourable draw out of the three. England have not been too impressive (although Germany haven't either) and most of the other big guns (except Netherlands) are on the opposite side of the draw. Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Croatia ...

Chiesa and Pessina, both from the bench, and up to now both match winners... I repeat: this group is special. Mancini is a great coach, really. So proud of this squad, no matter what.

What a bad performance by Italy.

They had to compensate with lots of their usual theatre. What a luck they had. Even with that fucked up clock at the end. 119(!) minutes + 1 minute injury time? WTF.

Football isn't always about dominating every match and winning every match with a 4-0. Quite lucky tonight, Austria gave it all. But those 2 goals, well, you have to score them, and we did.

If we deserve to go out, I think we'll find out everything against Belgium or Portugal, next round... In any case, it will be very tough, with CR7 or Lukaku to face.

Wijnaldum and Memphis (and perhaps some others) were no shadows of themselves. They made a lot of mistakes tonight. Kudos to the Czechs but really... so much went wrong.

In hindsight, the Italians played fantastic.

What a terrible performance by the Dutch.
So far my enthousiasm. Very disappointing. Game over.

You see... When I didn't put you Dutch among the possible final winners, I was right... You said I was underestimating your team, but now you see what I meant. You have to be 100% perfect and orchestrated, to go on in competitions like this. And you guys concede too many goals.

That being said, both Portugal and Belgium (We'll see who, tonight, but they're both strong) will probably kick our ass off, on Friday, so...

As an Inter fan, Lukaku would be my favourite punisher, If I had to choose!

You see?

We played much, much better in previous matches and I felt you did not give enough credit (lacked insight) for that. You hoped, gambled, and were (un)luckily correct.

Not as nearly as terrible as Czech Republic. My already low enthusiasm has sunk further. All we need is another Greece and another 2004.

Unfortunately the referees are allowing too much physical play. Czech beat the shit out of the Dutch in the first half, I mean straight leg kicking, body to body contact, pushing and so on. And in one instance of pure, undistilled stupidity, the Dutch defender chooses to make a red card over some Czech winger that's barely in the box. It's not Ronaldinho, pal. It's not a 100% goal, you are in the better team at 0-0 score. Even if it goes in, so what. First attack of Dutch after red card, Czech left back crushes the foot of the Dutch player, without any intent of reaching the ball and gets a yellow card. The referee had to exponentially increase the criteria for Czech fouls, then. Any kind of contact further on should be a yellow card. You have allowed the underdog to borderline physically fight the better, more technical team. Now in very technical situation, that team loses a player on the field and you still allow the fight approach.

C'mon man you lost several tournament games to Croatia who were on the orchestration level of a Sex Pistols gig, at that moment.
It's nice blowing your own trumpet while your team is doing good, what happened to the Dutch tonight can happen to anyone, some lack of chemistry, one error, referee whose style favours the other team, and off you go home.

I didn't hope anything! Just a personal feeling, proved to be true. Also, let me tell you, as an Inter fan, that De Boer has been the worst coach we've had over the last 20 years (probably the language boundary/limit did a great part in this, but...)

Unlucky episodes yesterday, yeah, but if you go home against a much weaker squad, in that way, then something doesn't and didn't work well...
