The Official Book of Souls Tour 2016 Thread (Warning: Spoilers within!)

I think the way they played it on Beast Over Hammersmith is the way it is meant to be played. No, I'm not asking them to play on that speed again for obvious reasons. It's probably impossible for them to do that again. That's why, for my taste, I don't think it would be a cool addition. Plus, we've seen it just 2-3 years ago anyway.

They keep celebrating TNotB all the time... RttH and the title track are now overplayed, recently we got The Prisoner, now CotD. I don't want to see more stuff from that album on the next TBoS leg. Bruce could just mention the anniversary when introducing CotD and that's it. 22AA would be interesting but not at the cost of any gem on the current setlist. It would be nice if they played it instead of Blood Brothers, though (but it's a completely different vibe, so that's unlikely).

You usually find that when things go quiet talk goes back to wishful thinking about what will/won't be played in future.

The people who don't visit this thread don't want to know in advance what's being played, they want it to be a surprise on the night. You can discuss it in other threads (except the non-spoiler tour thread), but only within spoiler tags. Because that means a lot of fiddling around with spoiler tags, it ends up being more convenient to just discuss setlists in here.

Fantastic show in Christchurch the other night. Here's Bruce wearing an All Blacks jersey - got one hell of a reception when he put it on during the encore!

Setlist was, of course, unchanged. The band all looked like they were having a great time and Bruce further endeared himself with some very kind words about Christchurch's large earthquake a few years ago.

Here's a shot I got of Ed Force One in the private jet enclosure. There was only one other plane in there - the owner must have experienced serious jet envy!

Heading to the Auckland show in about five hours, slightly bigger venue than Christchurch and hopefully just as good of an atmosphere.

I've got some more news from the guitar department. Dave used his black Floyd Rose Classic strat with Hot Rails and a JB in Cristchurch on TOAC, TRATB, Powerslave and DOG (he usually uses the Les Paul). That has been the first apearance of that guitar since 2010 when it was used as a substitute for the main sunburst strat while it was being refretted. That was an one-off since Dave has used the Les Paul in Auckland on those songs. Adrian has changed things around in Auckland too. He now plays the 2007 Jackson prototype with ebony fingerboard, white pickguard and DiMarzio Super Distortion on: Speed Of Light, Children Of The Damned, Powerslave, DOG, Blood Brothers and Wasted Years. Other standard tuned songs are now played on green sunburst Jackson with maple neck. The other white signature Jackson with Seymour Duncan pickup has been eliminated from the show.

Are you a really sophisticated bot?

If I was, would I admit it? LOL. Thanks for the compliment but no; I am, however, an anal retentive, obsessive-compulsive Iron Maiden fan who prefers not to be nitpicked and spell-checked and always does his research. :D I was being very serious, though, as this is a serious topic. It would make a good discussion that might help a bunch of metal fans like myself who only listen to music with the volume turned up and really never considered the consequences until the Brian Johnson thing happened.

Hello all, I just saw Maiden in Shanghai on April 26th. Yes, they had to alter the show a bit but it was AWESOME!! It was my first metal show overseas but it was my sixth time seeing Iron Maiden. I'm so glad they didn't alter the setlist. Hearing The Book of Souls songs gave me a new memory of seeing Maiden and it reminded me of some fun times when I was here last autumn such as going to Hangzhou, Jin Men in Taiwan (called Kin Men in Taiwan), and Xiamen, hearing Powerslave live brought back memories of when I listened to the Powerslave title track at the Pyramids in Egypt six years ago and hearing it live back in 2008, Wasted Years brought back memories of when I got into Maiden twenty years ago, and hearing Blood Brothers live reminded me of my first Maiden show sixteen years ago. It was also great to hear Children of the Damned live, I had waited a long time to hear it live! Speaking of Wasted Years, Shanghai reminds me of the Somewhere In Time album cover in many ways and I always wanted to see Maiden in an Asian city since I first got into Maiden. I forgot to add that towards the end of the show I had to stop jumping around as much during the encourses because my kidney stones were annoying me a bit but I still sang my heart out! I had a hard time finding a taxi at first after the show but I ran to one still with moderate kidney stone pain as soon as I saw one. I was fine after I got back to the hotel because I drank plenty of water

It's now been over 24 hours since the Sydney show and I'm still smiling in a way that would make Dave Murray proud.

My experience is just like many others around the world who've already posted....best ever setlist for an album tour (aside perhaps from AMOLAD), the Air Raid Siren is sounding better than ever, the stage show is incredible and the band as a whole seems more energised and animated than I can remember.

I arrived at the show with my girlfriend and a couple of friends just as Doctor Doctor began but we still managed to work our way to the first few rows of the floor by using "gig etiquette" and moving forward with the current of the crowd rather than pushing in with pointed elbows.

My 2 cent contribution:

- IESF surpassed Caught Somewhere In Time as the best opener I have seen live
- Speed of Light is their best live rocker since TETMD...energetic with a soaring chorus and rocket-fast solos
- "COTD, Powerslave and Wasted Years" would definitely knock out "Run to the Hills, 2 Minutes to Midnight, and Heaven Can Wait" in the first round if they met in a boxing ring
- TRATB could well be my favourite Maiden song, it is truly amazing live and the instrumental section is a real guitar feast
- TBOS is one of the band's finest epics and was the centrepiece of the show - Bruce hit every note, the guitars were heavy
- Bruce and the crowd did the new "climbing monkey dance"
- Adrian's red scarf is stylish and his green Jackson guitar is very cool
- Not sure why but it was great to hear Hallowed Be Thy Name played within the opening set rather than as the closing song of the encore
- The band seemed a little exhausted during FOTD and Iron Maiden which is understandable considering the number of lengthy songs in the setlist
- Adrian yawned during Blood Brothers
- Wasted Years was a perfect upbeat ending to the show
- Two of my friends managed to catch Adrian Smith picks. I scavenged the floor like an emu but missed out..

All in all it was a 10/10 evening out. I'm looking forward to seeing the boys again in Melbourne on Monday.
