The J.R.R. Tolkien Topic (publications and adaptations)

Yey, Bruce likes The Lord of the Rings a lot (interview 2004):

FAVORITE BOOKS HE NEVER WROTE A SONG ABOUT: The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkein
"We just thought it's such a huge book that it would be silly to write a song about it. It's almost as daft as imagining you could make a movie out of it. Though, of course, someone did that rather well."
Would not it be legendary if they just release a concept album on LOTR? I wish it would happen :(

We already have 90% of Blind Guardian's material for that.

Also, too huge of a book? Yet no problem writing one about Dune or a 13 epic on a single poem? Excuses

We already have it, but BG is not Iron Maiden. LOTR is in no way exhaustible with the musical scope of Blind Guardian. The equivalent of this claim would be to say, "Howard Shore's compositions are not original because BG and many others did some things on LOTR before". I disagree.

Of course they need to be truely inspired. It is more of a matter of the band's motivation and productivity than the limits of LOTR.

That's not it at all. You want a concept album? Nightfall in Middle Earth. I have never seen bands copy each other in said way, if you have examples I'd like to know. I've never seen Kansas say, "Hey! Pink Floyd's The Wall was great! We should do just that!" The only one that did something kinda sorta like that was Iced Earth with Horror Show, but it was as much of a tribute as it was "original."

I guess we misunderstood each other.

I want a concept album on LOTR, but who said that Nightfall should be my only option?

This is what I am saying as well: because bands do not copy each other, and especially because Maiden won't copy Blind Guardian, a vast source such as LOTR would be interpreted very differently by Maiden. This is simply what I would like to see.

You're polite. Onhell did not understand you. ;-P

Nightfall is about the Silmarillion. I still haven't heard a (good) album, solely about LOTR. A daunting task I guess. But I need to see Perun's list, perhaps I'll find one.

I see your point.

Foro, I know what Nightfall is about. Silmarillion is still LOTR lore. Part of Middle Earth history. Like you I haven't found (outside of BG) good LOTR material, but Perun's link provides a great to really start digging.

Philosophy

Anyone else find themselves in agreement with Tolkien’s philosophy of the loss of nobility over time?

I have personally always felt this way, but am curious if this is a majority opinion amongst his readers or if this is an unpopular one.
Hmm?
Tolkien never owned a car AFAIK and that was by choice.
Or do you mean your physical body losing it's mobility over time?
What do you mean his philosophies on it?
I'm really interested in this now because I have necrosis in both my hips at the age of 28 hahaa.

I used to be a Duke, but not anymore. That is why I no longer have a car by choice. While I don't suffer from necrosis, my body is constantly sore from so much walking and my heavy backpack. #Tolkienwarrior.

His work with his father's writings gave us The Silmarillion and a lot of other stories, passages and additional history and information. With his tireless work to get as much of his father's works released as possible, he made this world a bit merrier place.

May he rest in peace. Namárië.
