The Future Past Tour 2024

I didn't post the wrong link as I can see the video in my post and play it. ;)
Then I still fail to see the relevance since the video doesn't seem connected to the rest or your comment. It's basically just someone playing along with Wasted Years in what amounts to a clean tone. That's not the way guitar synths were used on the album.

That's the point, though. It was to illustrate the fact that there was no synth used on "Wasted Years". As @matic22 brilliantly explained that, there is no need for me to explain again what was the reason for the video. But, it was to point out the difference of sound between Adrian playing the song with no synth effect on it (just fret tapping) and the guy on the video pluging his guitar to a gear reproducing the sound of synth while playing the song on the guitar. ;)

But the thing about synths is that they can sound quite different. Just compare the intro to CSIT to the video you posted. A sound that basically sounds like a clean guitar isn't the best demonstration.

I’m pretty sure the argument isn’t whether synths can sound different, but that they’re not required or used to achieve the guitar tone on Wasted Years, or other hit b-sides from that album that we all enjoy so very much.

It's the heavy chorusing of the solid state amps on the album. Gallien Krueger amps are INCREDIBLY specific. Some say that you can get close by adding a chorus over distortion of a tube amp... Not even close.

Recently, I purchased a Kemper Stage and found a Gallien Krueger 250 ML profile and I gotta say, it sounds so different than everything else. Not having tubes, makes it somehow less volotile and more controlable. And that is exactly what the intro of Wasted Years is. Heavy chorus, integrated delay and slight muting with the right hand.

Also, Maiden or not, that GK sound is incredibly useful specific things. I'm planning to use it on Purple Rain's solo with a cover band that I'm in, as it just fits the vibe.

So in short, it's the amp and there is absolutely no synths on Wasted Years. There is also a neat trick done by Dave in studio. He played an arpeggiated Csus2 chord during choruses (the chord at the end of each chorus verse), which gives it some synth-like quality, but it's just guitar.
I downloaded a similar GK setting for my Helix. The patch is literally called Wasted Years. It gets very close for a modeler.

It makes sense as solid state amps are easier to model.

I called my entire bank of 4 performances "Somewhere In Time". First one is completely clean, 2nd one is the cleanish tone from the first part of Stranger solo, then heavy rythm and the last one is the lead performance (performance = patch in Kemper world).

I mean, yeah sure. I'm not arguing that Wasted Years is using synths. I'm just saying that the video that was linked sounds neither like Wasted Years nor like CSIT (which used the synths). Just feels kinda random :P

Speaking of guitar synths and Wasted Years and excellent b-sides to the singles, I just got my yellow tour-edition of Somewhere in Time in the mail. It's just a yellow version of the remastered album from 2015. I think it's still 180 gram as well, which is nice. But what is SUPER cool is the awesome holograph artwork that comes in the sleeve, which is the purple Future Past tour artwork. If you run your fingernail up and down at a particular angle, it makes a very satisfying sound.

Hoping, but not expecting, anyone here might have some inside knowledge (I'm not on the official forums.) It seemed initially there was going to be an Atlanta Nov. 14th date on TFP 2024 tour but instead they went with Charlotte on Nov. 13th. We know this because their social media team fucked up and put out a tour graphic showing Atlanta (where I live) instead of Charlotte. This was after tix went on sale and it caused a bit of confusion with some fans who had bought tix for Charlotte.

As far as I know their Socials ignored/never addressed the mix up (irritating). I understand there could be a multitude of reasons as to why an Atlanta date was scrapped I'm just curious to know the reason. I really would love to see this tour but Charlotte in the middle of the week would conflict even though it's only 3 hours away. Just knowing there could have been an Atlanta date makes a bit frustrating.

(Yes, this is what an obsessive fan does)
