The Future Past tour 2023

Oh to have been there!

For the Seventh Son tour Maiden were to play 2 nights at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Which at first I thought was odd because they filled out the hockey arena for the SiT tour. Well, they ended up cancelling well in advance the 2nd night because the 1st didn't sell out (supports the USA cold reception theory of the SSOASS album)

Frehley's Comet was the opener and then we waited for Maiden. And we waited...and waited. At one point I did see Steve off to the side with his gear on talking to some crew. Eventually someone comes out and advises us that Bruce was stuck in a NY airport and all flights were cancelled there "due to inclement weather" and to come back the next night and they would play with no opening act.

Next night went off fine, they were great. Bruce apologized for the night before and said they would do something special tonight to make up for it. They only played one extra song and it was.........WRATHCHILD!!

Lucky you to see that rarity played live!

So guys, I’ve been all into making my second Iron Maiden waistcoat with tons of patches (second one because the first was stolen on IM LOTB in Zagreb back in 2018, I had too much beer, nevermind).

So far I have collected the following patches:
  • Somewhere in Time
  • Days of Future Past
  • Senjutsu back artwork
  • Senjutsu front artwork, back (big one)
  • IRON MAIDEN logo
  • IRON MAIDEN logo
  • Maiden England 88
  • Powerslave
  • Fear of the Dark single
  • No Prayer for the Dying
  • Number of the Beast
  • AMOLAD
  • Killers
  • The Trooper single
  • SSOASS
  • AMOLAD Eddie
So what do you suggest: how should I position them? I was thinking all the Senjutsu on the back, but I got only three of them (one big for back, and two small 10x10 cm).

The waistcoat is black.
Any ideas?

Lol, it's all good. Love the song regardless.

I've sometimes wondered if that was how all that went down, if Bruce was really stuck in NY. I am guessing so as it looked like Steve was ready to play. But it sure seemed like they soured on Atlanta since then.

They cancelled the No Prayer show at the hockey arena (it was to be a half house show). They played the outdoor amphitheater for Fear. That night was a bit fuzzy and I can't recall how well attended that show was but my tickets were kind of far back in the seating area, so I'm guessing it was okay.

X Factour in a small club, and they decided to nix Atlanta for VXI though it was on the schedule at one point. Maiden didn't play Atlanta again until 2012 for Maiden England and the place was packed as well as for the LOTB in 2019. Hoping they come back again for Future Past but I'm sure they will do Charlotte and/or Tampa/Ft Lauderdale if they don't play Atlanta.

Will someone attending the first show of the tour do a livestream? (Either audio or video/audio) Would be extremely fun to witness the (hopefully) surprises in 'real time' since i won't be there in person.

The Talking Maiden podcast will do a live stream! But its them discussing/reveal the setlist. It was awesome to hear their reaction for the Legacy set:

The original somewhere in time tour had a shorter set in NA, as was the case for pretty much all of their tours in the 80s.

This is something that has always puzzled me and I still remember the comments from some North American fans who felt short-charged when they learnt that Maiden were playing longer sets in Europe in the 80s (although this also happened later, like in 2003).

The reason Maiden have given for these shorter sets was “unions regulations about curfews”, which sounds like a fairly pathetic Thatcherite excuse to me (we have strict curfews in the UK too). If there is a curfew, why not start playing earlier so you fans can witness the same setlist you have been playing elsewhere?

Cool! Is it live on their website or somewhere else like Twitch?

The answer is "maybe". I recall watching TBOS live on stream but I don't think there was a readily available stream for LotB '22's opening night for example. Meanwhile Metallica had multiple different people streaming their opening show last month but that's not necessarily indicative of anything since it's two different crowds in entirely different countries.

Hear, hear!

I was lucky enough to see Billy Bragg live back in 2021. Great gig!
Lucky you!!! I never saw him live, unfortunately. Though he is regularly playing in Hamburg which is nearby. I wanted to go and see him ever since, I really adore this guy from at least 1994 on. To me he is one of the most integer and fascinating persons in showbizz and I'd love to spend a few coffee with him talking. Really sympathic guy.
