I think they were still fearful of the backlash they got for doing the AMOLAD. A massive section of Maiden fans made it very clear that they don't want to hear "new shit" so they played more of what people wanted to hear.

EDIT: In relation to TFF tour, not Give Em Ed

maybe they were not that confident in their new album.... That was my guess. They started doing other songs later in the tour which is why I went back on that tour the following year in Florida to see it again

But they still played mostly post-1999 tunes, which plenty of people still bitched about ;)

I, for one, was glad to see the 2010 setlist... it was far more adventurous than the 2011 set. Trooper, 2MTM, RTTH, Running Free... yawn.

They started doing more songs from the album on the second leg in 2011, because it was after the album came out. The 2010 leg was pre album release. It was more of a warm-up/teaser tour.

I would have held off on the show in 2010 had I known that but then again, I didn't see any shows in the states the second leg at first so I went to the first leg of it

Yeah, taking a post 1999 set list on the road in the US was very brave for Maiden to do. I think they were out to prove themselves a bit on that and win over some of those conservative fans....

Like Lego says, this US leg was before the album even dropped so I guess they just wanted people to have the album first...

Kind of hard to call it entirely a reaction to the AMOLAD tour, when they hardly toured that album in the US at all. A handful of shows in the big cities - compared to TFF (Reunion + El Dorado setlist) which toured all over the US.

The last time Maiden extensively toured behind a new album in the US was BNW. Since then, the big cities get all tours, and the rest of us get the oldies tours.

^ I hope they tour the USA with their new album the way they did Maiden England. They went everywhere in the states especially the south and the last time they did that was during the Blaze era

Different countries, even cities, want different sets/songs. I think that's pretty much it.

Still, right now what i'm really thinking about is the new album.

The way they choose to tour it, kind of does not matter to me. I'm sure they'll play some songs off of it when they feel like it.

We get all nitpicky about setlists, but tbh, I've only seen them twice. They could play Run To The Hills for 2 hours and I'd still pay $75 to see 'em.

They've also been occupied with the Maiden England tour for about two years...First Maiden England show started June 2012, tour ended this year in July  I hope it feels good for them to be back in the studio and doing entirely new material after playing the same songs for two years.

Pretty much, yeah. Usually i'm way more focused on the creative side of a band, tbh. Maiden will always kick ass live, so... play whatever. It will sound good.

I'm hopeful the new album tour isn't just another "5 new songs and the same old classics" setlist again. After 3 years of Maiden England I think a lot of the 1980s hits deserve a break for a couple years. Hell, maybe they'll even pull out an old deep cut or two!

Nope - I don't know about the south in particular, but the BNW tour was quite extensive in the US.
