I love all the kitsch, but I understand how it can be off-putting. If the music wasn't absolutely brilliant I'd probably feel differently about the art/concept.

I'd love for Maiden to do something, anything from a past album they've never done live. Well, maybe not Weekend Warrior or The Angel And The Gambler. And it would be nice to see them retire Fear Of The Dark. Putting Mother Russia in its place would be super awesome! And I'd give anything to hear Look For The Truth and Lightning Strikes Twice with Bruce singing.

Does time have any influence on your expectations or tolerance?

I know not everyone will agree (we do not own the band etc. <<--- in less impatient days I tend to agree; and perhaps there are even souls out here who think Maiden can wait another two or three years before starting to be creative) but I think that Maiden needs to make up for such a long interval in between albums.
Not only for the interval itself. It's also the lengthy silence on anything that has to do with a new release, during this interval.

What do they think out there? That we are a bunch of zombies? A bunch of Kiss fans who can be completelely satisfied by tons of merch, beer and rehash of the past? No fucking way. Maiden are a more vital band than Kiss, or aren't they?

A double album will do to make up for it.

At least, a fucking good album. Of course, a less than good album is never good enough, but especially not when you are gone for ages. I'm counting on something special, something interesting.

The more Maiden will wait, the more demanding I'll be.

Exactly my thoughts. Even more, two albums recorded during the same sessions and released with a few months interval. They really could do it, and I really hope they are thinking of something special for what could be there last album.

It's the music I'm talking about. I find there's too much going on, it's dizzying.

I rank this record very high, but I understand your point. In the early 2000s, for some reason, I didn't listen to this album for something like 2 years. Not that I conciously ignored it : I was just into other albums of their catalogue. When I realized that and listened to it, I was just shocked by the sound, by the multiple layers, CSIT being the most stricking example. Sometimes, it just sounds overproduced. I know it might sound strange, but I needed time to get into it again.

And that's a right you have as a long-time fan :)

I'm not sure what to expect this time around. The musical changes of Maiden have usually been more of the evolution kind than the revolution kind. Apart from member changes, which of course have influenced on the style. But in terms of song structures and overall style, the only really big change could be seen as SSOASS --> NPFTD, where they went from a dramatic and atmospheric sound to a raw and aggressive one.

Especially the post-1999 albums have seen relatively small changes (except production-wise, where these four albums differ quite a bit). Therefore I do not expect something dramatically different from TFF, maybe except for the theme.

I hope they recorded well balanced music programm between stright into our heads and ears, blockbusting metal anthems with upfit tempo and strong sound and the epic ones with great choruses and dramatic vibe. Maybe just 60 mins are enough to catch the meaning of perfect balanced record in this case?!
