Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Alright got next week off from work so like always before a new Maiden record is released, I'm going to start listening to the discography from the beginning till the end while skipping nothing. I got my record player ready and this time I'm going to try recording to the PC and take that on the go instead of relying on iTunes, etc.

I've even made a thread for that.

You can tell "Death of the Celts" is a Steve Harris song without hearing it or even checking the writing credits...

First it's got that "of the" in the title; 'Arry needs one of those "of the" songs on every album, or else his deal with the devil lapses, and he'd lose that right finger speed and have to use a pick to keep up, and nothing is more disgusting than a bass player using a pick.

Second, "Celts" is a bitch of a word to rhyme. You know the guy who made up this title is better at music than words. This is gonna be one of those songs where Harris writes way too many words to fit in that space and leaves poor Brucie gasping for breath. But hang on, you know it's not over, because the next song will be even worse: "The Parchment" is even harder to rhyme.

There was blood on their faces
And mud on their pelts
Death of the Celts
Death of the Celts

Their defenses melt
As the damage is dealt
Death of the Celts
Death of the Celts

Those mean Anglo-Saxons
Left big nasty welts
Death of the Celts
Death of the Celts

Their belts made of felt
As they knelt in the veldt
Death of the Celts
Death of the Celts

You’re right, that one’s tough. But maybe he’s not talking about paper, maybe he’s just talking about being really, really thirsty.

This thirst is the worst
So I need to drink first
Cos I’m suffering through the parchment

I need to be nursed
Cos my throat’s feeling cursed
While I’m suffering through the parchment

Woah-oh-oh-oh, feel the parchment
Woah-oh-oh-oh, it’s the parchment

I feel so parched
Don’t you feel so parched
I feel so parched
Can’t we not feel parched
I am feeling so parched
We feel so parched
Don’t we all feel parched
We hate feeling parched

Just found some time to share my two cents about post-reunion releases without mentioning studio albums.

2000-2010 - some singles and EPs has some interesting stuff as B'sides (like Futureal and MOTE live 1999 with Bruce, NML B'sides, Focus cover), but most frequently simply some new live takes on classics, some alternative mixed versions, some jams. Live albums were great - pure masterpiece RIR, DOTR is good (especially Journeyman live), Flight 666 is great in taking classics to modern sound. Archives, documentaries, re-issues is great. And also we still having some not released leftovers - ZZ Top and Thin Lizzy covers from 2006, Download 2007 live...

2010-2021 - no singles with b'sides, just promos( Great EV live, great ME88 reissue (that 5.1 mix is perfect), then some average live compilations like NOTD (even vithout accompaniing video) and TBOSLC (imo they'd better also add TOAC and HBTN /but there was a legal problem with Beckett at the time as I remember/ from the first leg, so we got complete TBOS tour live compilation, but at least we have Wacken 2016 broadcast). Some great LP reissues that really made me happy because now I have complete Maiden and Dickinson discography on vinyl. Strange digipack reissue of backcatalogue.

I'm really confused when I see recent Metallica's or Jethro Tull's re-releases with tons of extra materials - why Maiden simply releasing same albums without any bonuses at all? I think they have a lot of great stuff behind the curtain.

Noooo dont go there, few pages before we had that discussion

And there is a theard for all Maiden vs.other bands stuff

They could add more bonus stuff, but then again, all albums from the debut to VXI have bonus stuff - live versions, covers, original b-sides songs...

But not after that (if you don't count the electric version of ''Journeyman'' and the AMOLAD documentary) - the singles until 2006 have some cool stuff though.

↑ In this case Senjutsu will replace For the Greater Good of God or Where Eagles Dare?
Senjutsu is about defending the wall, so it fits War theme. If WOTW will replace The Evil that Men Do - it will be shitty move :)

But what about the actual tour for Senjustu?LOTB resumes in June next year, right?
