I thought I'd post a few reactions from the hardrock/heavy metal community...

Dream Theater

Hehe, turns out Mike Portnoy was (possibly) the source of that "Dime, Randy, Cliff and Bonzo" bit I posted above. I saw it on Digg, but Portnoy posted it to his Twitter 8 hours ago.

RIP Ronnie  :(

Don't talk to strangers
'Cause they're only there to do you harm
Don't write in starlight
'Cause the words may come out real

Don't hide in doorways
You may find the key that opens up your soul
Don't go to heaven
'Cause it's really only hell

Don't smell the flowers
They're an evil drug to make you lose your mind
Don't dream of women
'Cause they only bring you down

Hey you, you know me, you've touched me, I'm real
I'm forever the one that lets you look and see and
Feel me
I'm danger - I'm the stranger

And I, I'm darkness, I'm anger, I'm pain
I am master
The evil song you sing inside your brain
Drive you insane
Don't talk

Don't let them inside your mind, yeah
Run away, run away, go!

No - no

Don't let them in your mind
Protect your soul

Don't dance in darkness
You may stumble and you're sure to fall
Don't write in starlight
'Cause the words may come out real

Don't talk to strangers
'Cause they're only there to make you sad
Don't dream of women
'Cause they'll only bring you down
Yeah

Run, run, run, run away!

Yes. Even though Bonham is for many people more legendary, I would have mentioned Cozy Powell, who -after all- was his bandmate in Rainbow.

I am curious for (a) reaction(s) from a certain singer/band who we know best on this forum...

I got a text message from my friend last night when I had already gone to sleep.  I didn't even properly register the information in my grogginess, and I didn't even remember it this morning until I saw this thread. Now I feel twice as bad.

RIP Dio.  I wish I had seen you live once.

When I go to Sonisphere this summer, every time I raise the horns it will be a salute to Dio, who should be playing there.

From wikipedia;

His passing was met with confusion amongst fans, with Facebook and Twitter users spreading rumours of his death as early as the 15th of May 2010, partly due to prior death rumours about Dio. When Blabbermouth.net contacted Wendy Dio at 11:35 p.m. PST on Saturday, May 15, she said the following;

"I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing good, but he is not dead. "I will let you know if anything changes. "Thank you for your concern."

However, Blabbermouth.net, along with many other websites who had posted to the contrary, retracted prior statements and confirmed Dio's death.

WTF?

There are always some wankers who will start rumours, and there were plenty of those on Friday. I think that is a total lack of respect for a terminally ill man and his family, and I hope those who started the rumours feel ashamed of themselves.

A man genuinely regarded by most, if not all, members on this forum as a true metal legend. Very sad.

RIP, Dio.

Ronnie James Dio R.I.P.
Published: May 17, 2010

It is with huge sadness we hear that Ronnie has lost his battle against stomach cancer, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Wendy and family at this terrible time.  From his earlier years in Elf, Black Sabbath and Dio, right through to his most recent days fronting Heaven and Hell, Ronnie, time and again, proved his genius as a frontman, always giving his all to his fans and his music. Ronnie was not only an incredibly gifted singer but also a wonderfully warm, intelligent and generous person and this shone through both on and off stage leaving a positive mark on everyone he came into contact with. A longstanding friend of Maiden, we played many shows together over the years and we will all miss him greatly.

The world has lost an irreplaceable talent and, first and foremost,  one of the finest human beings you could ever wish to meet.

Steve, Bruce, Adrian, Dave, Janick, Nicko and Rod

R.I.P. Dio  :(  :(

Silver linings can disappear, but they always shine

We are sunlight
We can sparkle and shine
And our dreams are what we're made of

So just hold on
You can make it happen for you
Reach for the stars and you will fly

Very sad news.  :(

One of the best singer ever, and not only on the metal scene (I think about Butterfly Ball)

Thanks to the Iron Maiden's website for the news, because there's nothing about that in the french medias  <_<

Dear Mod Squad, is it possible to merge all Dio related threads into one? There seems to be two in every forum and all about the same subject.

Yeah...gimme one minute.

Edit: done. I almost accidentally merged in the footy thread. That would have sucked.

A friend of mine wrote a surprisingly good song about him using song names.
I think I'll compose a melody for it.

I'm still totally strung out. I wouldn't have thought this would touch me so deeply.
