Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) - The Official Topic

A year has passed. Still can't believe he's gone :(

Same here, which brings me to my favorite memory of RJD: performing at the high school dance at South Park, while the kids dance around like "Peanuts" to Holy Diver. I would've loved if he had played my school dances!

RJD, here's hoping you're with the other fools that have sailed away...

I'm gonna throw on a bunch of Dio today! Just got the Heaven and Hell at Wacken DVD too so I will watch that.

Anyone heard about this?

Former DIO members Rudy Sarzo (bass), Simon Wright (drums), Craig Goldy (guitar) and Scott Warren (keyboards) joined forces with singers Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) and Toby Jepson (LITTLE ANGELS, GUN) to play a number of shows in Europe under the name DIO DISCIPLES.

I think that it's a fitting tribute unless they decide to record a new album or something.

NO! No one should tour singing DIO songs. EVER.

Obviously, my opinion may change after hearing a couple of songs.

Yet, with all respect, I think Ripper isn't skilled enough to pull off Dio songs, without butchering them.

Wow.  I knew garage bands in college who played bigger gigs than that.  How does this guy still have a career?
I feel sorry for him, really. He is a great singer, that had lots of bad luck throughout his career, always being a replacement to another famous singer - Halford, Barlow, Dio, numerous Yngwie Malmsteen singers etc. I think he should concentrate on Charred Walls Of The Damned (Richard Christy's band). That band has released one great album and is preparing another one. At least he's not a replacement there.

Oh, sorry.

I just listened to H&H and all I can say is that he does it pretty good...  :yey:

I'll check those two out as soon as I have time.

I think Tim Owens is a fantastic singer, and I'd have him in my band if I had a band. Some of his moments with Priest and IE are the best of those bands and in metal in general. Obviously, I go primarily for Gettysburg, which is a masterpiece top to bottom.

You just described 98% of metal bands out there lol. Great music, but crappiest videos ever.
No but their videos really set the suck-standard much higher.
