Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) - The Official Topic

This is so sad. Such a huge loss.

It's so bizzare, you know great musicians die, but it catches you by surprise when they do.

Rest in peace.

I can't and don't want to believe it. This just can't be true...

I was just to step into bed, and my wife suddenly read it (via facebook)...

So sad, this news...  :(

Rest in peace, you humble wizard.

In the land of no tomorrow
Where you pray just to end each day
And your life just slowly melts away

Hanging from the cobwebs in you mind
It looks like a long, long way to fall
No one ever told me life was kind
I guess I never heard it, I never heard it all

Living in a world of make believe
I can hide behind what's real
But wearing your emotions on your sleeve
And they all know what you feel

And here it comes again
Straight through the heart

Never tell a secret with your eyes
It's the eyes that let you down
Tell a little truth with many lies
It's the only way I've found

Shout to the wind: How can you hurt me this way?
Oh, once it begins; it looks like it's coming to stay

This is very sad, bad news.  I knew he was ill with cancer, but Heaven & Hell have been scheduling concert dates, so I had assumed he was feeling better, if not totally cured.  I rarely am sad when celebrities die, but I am now.  In my view -- not wanting to provoke a debate here -- he is the greatest metal singer ever.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but his death seems so much more random than usual--even if he was battling cancer.  I'm really glad that I saw Heaven & Hell last summer, so I at least got two chances to see Ronnie James Dio live (the other when Dio toured with Maiden in 2003).

RIP.

Thanks, Ronnie James Dio, for the amazing years you gave us. You shall be remembered.

Wow, I feel like I just got hit in the gut by a sledgehammer.

Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) was one of the greatest legends in heavy metal history. Describing his skills as vocalist and lyricist as exceptional would be a terrible understatement. With the bands Rainbow (1975-1978), Black Sabbath (1980-1982, 1992, 2007-2010) and Dio, he helped shape and define the world of heavy metal in a way that seeks comparison.

Ronnie James Dio is one of my favourite singers, his music has been inspiring me for many years, and I cannot exaggerate the importance it has, has had and will have in my life. I am thankful to have seen him live with Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath) twice last year, and I was looking forward to seeing him again with Sabbath or his own band some time in the future. Alas, it was not meant to be.

I wish I could write more at the moment, but I am truly lost for words.

The Man Who Would Be King

We sailed across the air before we learned to fly
We thought that it could never end
We'd glide above the ground before we learned to run
Now it seems our world has come undone

Oh they say that it's over
And it just had to be
Oh they say that it's over
We're lost children of the sea

Sucks as I never got to see Heaven & Hell play live. I'm also quite surprised, it seemed as if Dio was doing well with his treatments. I will miss his voice as he was my favourite of vocalists.

*sigh* I must get used to the fact that many of the musicians I listen to will quit making music one day soon, for whatever the reason.

Very sad. RIP Dio. :(

Edit: finding myself glad I got the chance to see him live once, opening for Maiden on GMETID in '03.

Another edit: the man brought \m/ to metal. Every time I throw up the horns next month at the Maiden show, it's gonna also be tribute to Dio.
And he brought us Hear 'N' Aid. Metal's greatest attempt to save the world. Playing it now.
Why all the edits? This news is so massive, my thoughts can't flow smoothly. They happen as they happen...

Yeah, it's another edit... seen on another website: Dime, Randy, Cliff and Bonzo finally have their singer.
