Pass. They blew it.

The data in the spoiler buttons illustrates that the dynamic range on these files is far more compressed than on the original CDs or even the 2014 remastered vinyl LPs. I was hoping that the digital downloads would match the splendid dynamic range of the LPs. Instead, it is far less. Still sounds better than the CDs you can find new in stores today, but no reason to buy these if you own the original CDs or the new (or old) vinyl. I'm all for loudness, annoys me when I have to turn up the volume whenever something old comes up on shuffle :p But then again, I listen to music on laptop speakers and earphones exclusively, so I'm not too bothered.

This is just it. I'm damned if I can hear a wide dynamic range on the equipment I have.

You, sir, are the problem.
:D (Just kidding.)

In all seriousness, everyone should listen to the samples for themselves, and if you think the new remaster sounds better than what you currently have on whatever gear you use to hear music, then don't listen to my rants, buy it and enjoy. For example, on one audiophile thread, someone is saying the new remaster of Piece of Mind is an improvement over the 1980s CD because it has more bass. Whatever works for you.

A behind the scenes look:

OMG! Look at the file size and bitrate for just one song!

Here is a link to the waveform for the hi-rez download of the title track to No Prayer For The Dying. The latter half of the song is a good illustration of what "brickwalling" looks like. The first half looks a little better, but that's not surprising given that it's the softer part of the song, before the tempo picks up.

EDIT: Now, I actually paste the link, as promised. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qsuu4oulek9bdoe/No Prayer.png?dl=0

Can anyone confirm what I fear, that the remastered version of BNW has been slightly messed up?

All of the quiet intros, and certain bits of songs have a scratchy distortion. Did they boost it too high? It's the only album I've noticed it on and I have the debut, SIT and 7th Son too, all of which are fine.

Listen to the intro of BNW and you will hear what I mean.

I've found it was VLC player. I've switched to PowerAmp music player and its fine but the PC and Android versions of VLC were putting the distortion in somehow (equalizer off and volume under 100%).

Yeah. Not worth it. :(
Why can't they just give us some nice digital files straight from the original CDs?

I downloaded a few of the new remasters and I genuinely don't hear the difference between them and the previous remasters... Still interested in hearing DoD and TFF remasters, hope they fixed those up at least a bit.

Well, I hope my remark didn't sound too rude then. I guess -apart from literal hearing- it also has to do with interpretation and focus on proportions of what is presented.
