OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS inside!

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

When the band is long gone you'll be glad on various tours that they did more than play 90% the same setlist tour after tour.  That's what makes their DVDs relatively fresh and at least somewhat unique.  Granted they overlap a lot of mains-stay songs, still...as a band is wont to do...but I appreciate that they do an album and tour that album.  If you don't like that particular new album then that sucks.  Stay home.  Wait for the next nostalgia go 'round, which they're guaranteed to do on the very next tour.

It's pretty simple.  Otherwise you end up with 6 DVD concerts, all pretty much of the LAD variety.  Not bad, but Goddamn boring after a while.

Exaclty! Thus far, every post-BNW live DVD has contained The Trooper, Fear of the Dark, Number of the Beast, Run To The Hills, Hallowed and Iron Maiden. Even the History series (Early Years and Live After Death) except for FOTD, of course. And yes, if they issue the Donington show from the AMOLAD tour, it's going to contain those tracks too.

As a counter-example, look at Dream Theater's live DVDs - none of the setlists are even remotely similar to each other.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

hi everyone, new in here  B)

The set list is cool but not great for being Maiden, I think they should have mixed it better. I will not be surprised if Maiden were fed up with the last tour set list. In that set list alone there are songs that they have played forever and they are present on this tour too  ::)

They wanted to show that Maiden is more than the familiar songs but to put 11 post-Bruce/Adrian songs in a row could be risky. They should have mixed the running order with some typical classics and also obscure classics tracks, like Purgatory, Killers, Eagles, etc

Also from the post/reunion material they choose songs that have already been played..........I say if your going to be risky why don't be risky for real? Why not Montsegur, Nomad, Thin Line, etc? Never been played live before.

And for the 'obvious' songs, to drop Run to The Hills and specially The Trooper....... even if you are member of Maiden and you are hating them, you cannot put these to rest to give more space to some post/reunion tracks. Given the choice, most of the audience would have taken out one or two tracks (depending on the length) of the post/reunion material and put these two classics in their place.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

I don't personally care that they dropped Run To The Hills, since I've seen it live so many times and it's on every DVD/CD, but it really is a dick move to drop one of the songs that the majority of the audience wants to hear.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

I anticipate apathetic US audiences similar to 2006 with this set list.  Sadly, many are largely unfamiliar with post reunion material, even if some of these songs are over 10 years old.

To give some perspective, the upcoming July20th/DC show will be my first Maiden concert ever.  My wife is a very recent Maiden convert, and this will also be her first concert from them.  And as much as I LOVE the setlist, I would't mind a few of those "old standards" that they seem to have dropped, songs that I guaranteed my wife they'd play because as far as I know, they've never not played them.  That being said, ALL Maiden albums are classic in my eyes, and the setlist as is is absolutely phenomenal.  We can't wait!

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

First off, not everyone in America hates all Maiden songs created after 1988. Everyone that loves the set from last night is assuming those of us who are disappointed just want to hear
2 Minutes, The Trooper and Run to the Hills
ad nauseum. That is untrue. I loved the first 7 songs of the set, and the only song that I feel strongly about being dropped is
Wildest Dreams
.

That being said, too many long songs can lull the crowd to sleep, so iterjecting something like
Be Quick or Be Dead, Rainmaker, Still Life, Holy Smoke, Evil That Men Do, The Prisoner, Flight of Icarus, Killers, The Murders in the Rue Morgue -- none of which were played on the last tour
within the set could stave off the potential boredom. Sticking 5 songs onto the end, four of which everyone knew where coming, is fine, but one or two others (not necessarily 'classics') in the middle would make the set more entertaining. Keepin mind Maiden is in the business of entertaining AND selling tickets. Prior to last night I had a potential group of 5 heading to MSG to see the show on July 12, now that group is down to 2 (and I'm not completely sure I will even attend).

It is unfortunate that it seems like Maiden has picked up a bit of momentum in the States over the past couple of years, only to squander the potential with this set. Here I must reiterate that I really like 75% of the set, but a couple simple tweaks could have really made this speacial. I know Maiden will always do it their way, and theat is why so many of us like them so much, but sometimes being stubborn isn't necessarily the best tactic. Hopefully they will prove us all wrong and come out with a few new songs sprinkled into the set, but I doubt it. If nothing else, they could combine songs form this part of the tour and the later part (with several more FF songs) to make a more compelling live album/DVD that isn't bogged down by all of the classics that have grown stale.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

I tried to refrain form the spoilers but MetalSucks did a post with a headline saying it was
mostly new material
and I cracked.

I am so stoked for this. My dream for an opener of
The Wickerman
has come true, and 90% of the other stuff are favorite
new era tracks
of mine.

Goddamn, this is awesome. July 18th, please come fast.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

Too bad there seem to be so many people with so many complaints about the set list.

Oh wait - that happens every tour.

I love the setlist. Can't wait for the show.

And maybe it's because I've seen them four times each, but I won't miss Trooper or RTTH one bit.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS and ENTIRE Dallas setlist inside!EDDIE pic added!

I dunno, I'd love to see this tour. I think that people who critique Maiden's choices maybe have too much attachment to the older stuff.

Would I love to see The Trooper and Run To The Hills? Sure. But I want to see Paschendale way more. Way way more.

Play Classics! is gone for spoiling a song. rokyronnie, I had to fix your post.
I don't think it's fair to ban someone for breaking a rule the first time. You didn't ban Rudolf when he did it by accident.

There was a malicious intent within.

As this is going to be my first Maiden show, I was hoping to see them play
The Trooper and Run to the Hills
, but I agree...
Paschendale
is cooler.

MetalSucks and other blogs have been critiquing the setlist, but I am so excited for it.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS of ALL kinds await you inside!

I'm so excited because I've only seen 4 of these songs live.  Should be great.

Re: OFFICIAL tour thread. SPOILERS of ALL kinds await you inside!

Let them critique it. You can't please all the people all the time.

Maiden have always played what they want to play. The AMOLAD tour was the most dramatic proof of that.

There's been plenty of oldies tours in the past decade. I'm overjoyed that they're finally taking DOD and AMOLAD songs to the middle of America. Or at least to Denver.

I love that they say "fuck you" to people that dislike what they play live. Besides, there's always more people who are pleased with their setlists than the detractors.

Fuck.

Check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ0o0hb3E38 : people at the first row not even moving
I'm thinking this tour -especially in US- might be a major fail. At least AMOLAD it was a new album...
Anyway, kudos to them for daring it and good chance for the rest of the tour!!

Seriously, I never saw more still crowd than this, during a first song of Maiden concert
and I'm curious to read a full US gig review...
SMX, you're on the case, right man ??
