So it will likely be Canada and USA in the final. Hopefully the folks in Boston won't boo the Canadian anthem. I think it's wrong to boo any anthem.

It's wrong to threaten a country that has been your reliable partner for decades and sacrificed its own people to help you with tariffs and annexation.

Of course it is. And most Americans- who have also been Canada’s reliable partners for decades- agree with that.

But when you boo the anthem, you insult ALL Americans.

Right, and if America invades Canada, it's unfair for Canada to fight against America, because there surely are Americans who were against this.

Sometimes a statement has to be made loud and clear. The Americans voted for their president, and he antagonised Canada.

We do not see it that way. We trust our American friends, those who are still our friends, appreciate that we didn't get too angry last time Dumb Donnie was in charge, and can see only that since he's leveled an existential threat against our nation we have chosen a public way to show resistance to the Mango Mussolini and his regime of barely post-pubescent technoblackshirts running rampant on the US.

The anthem is a symbol, not of individual Americans, but of the place the United States currently plays within the world. Stop attacking your allies and best friends.

Good grief, is every thread going to turn into a politics thread?

Go Canada! This tournament has been amazing, death to the All-Star Weekend! Long live the 4-nations even though we'll likely never see it again!

Not the result I wanted ... but the NHL did an amazing job with this ... maybe too good, the regular season resuming is almost a bit of a letdown
never mind the rest of the season, when are we getting this tournament again? 2027? NHL already stated they want to proceed with the Olympics and World Cup of Hockey every 2 years. So, Olympics next year 2026, 4 nations 2027, WCoH 2028, 4 nations 2029, Olympics 2030, etc.?

2026 and 2028, but I doubt we'll see 4 Nations again.
I hope that is not true, would be nice if they could find a way to do it once a decade or something like that .. but if the NHL stays in the Olympics every 4 years, I suppose it is probably not necessary.

4 Nations only happened because Russia invaded Ukraine, otherwise it would have been a World Cup. Since the American president is about to sell out Ukraine, it seems likely a legal state of peace will exist after the upcoming Olympics.

Trade Deadline in full swing. The most interesting to me, of course, is the Hawks trading Seth Jones. Jones got a lot of flack (unfairly I think). Yes the Hawks probably gave up too much in the trade. I never cared for Boquvist, and he is essentially out of the league. But it was the wrong move at the wrong time. The dynasty was dead and Jones was not going to replace an in his prime Keith. They they signed him for too much term for too much money. All that said with the salary retention, Florida is getting him for about 7M/year as a 2nd paring D-man, in which case he will thrive.

I am really happy with the return, not a ton retained, none of which will matter for the next few years anyway and with the cap rising will mean less and less every season. Getting back the 1st is nice (obviously a low first). To me Knight is a real get. If he turns out to be anything near what was expected, he should be in net for a long time as a top 10 goalie in the league.

Nice move to move on from Jones while not taking on the full 50% retention and getting some really nice assets back

Knight for Jones is a steal! Jones is 30, sure the Hawks suck, but so did he. Thrive or not in a second pairing.... he's an expensive 30 year old d-man. Knight is 23... TWENTY THREE! Great move by the Hawks.

Jones was a very dumb acquisition by a very desperate GM when he went to Chicago, got signed for way too much money and term. The Panthers really needed to figure out what to do with Spencer Knight, and this seems like a good "win now" move. Jones at 7 million is a reasonable hit and I expect his microstats will rebound on a better team and with more appropriate minutes.

Yeah, I think Jones will do well for Florida for a couple of years then hit a steep decline, he does have a lot of miles on him. That said, this does seem like a win-win trade. I can easily see Knight being a top 10 goalie for the next decade plus in Chicago and another 1st rounder is never a bad thing. I can also see Jones help Florida with another deep run. RHD are always in demand
