Mario was unbelievable.
At the end it looked like he could barely skate.
But his brain and his hands were so superior to everyone else he could still just toy with people.
So this has nothing to do with the current season. I bought a magazine about the greatest sport scandals in history. Obviously I start to look for any hockey related scandal only to find two. One, apparently some player hired a hitman to kill his agent. The other was Marty McSorely's slash on Donald Brashear, which effectively ended his career. He was suspended for a year, convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and ordered not to play in any league in which Brashear was an opponent in. Brashear suffered a concussion and continued to play, he currently plays in a minor league.
My thought was... Why was Bertuzzi's incident omitted? He ended another players career due to his senseless act. He too was banned for a year and while he continue to play... I think, the other player is forever paralyzed. I wonder who made the choices in finding these "scandals."
Holy Shit pickle! I knew Letang suffered from migraines and initially thought that could be what sidelined him... Never thought it could've been a stroke!
So all the teams that were supposed to win have won so far. Sweden has gotten two victories under its belt, though I don't know if a 1-0 win against the Swiss speaks to how good the Swiss are this year or to how much work the Swedes have ahead of them. The other "power" in hot water is Canada. 3-1 against Norway? WTF? Same question stated above applies. The Finns displayed good offense, but gotta reign it in defensively. The U.S is definitely NOT an underdog this time around, but I'm still rooting for Russia to win tomorrow
I wouldn't be too worried about the Canadian score, or really any from the opening round.
Canada just put on a clinic against Austria in the first period.
I am voting for Russia against the Americans, too — but I don't live in the states.
Personally, I am hoping the Americans clean the Russians clock, especially after Putin visited the Canadian Village and wished us good luck in everything...except hockey.
LOL. Well, close, they won in shootout, I missed it, couldn't wake up early enough, but even the highlights were intense. The stage is set. Canada wiped the floor with Austria, so my fears have dissipated.
That Russia-U.S. hockey game was great -- very exciting, high level of skill, and a bit chippy, which was fun to see. Disallowing Russia's go-ahead (3-2) goal was nitpicky, but according to the announcers consistent with the rule.
The disallowed Russian goal was legal in the NHL - but illegal in international play, 100%. If the net is not 100% square, the goal is very much not legal.
Knock-out round starts tomorrow! I see Canada and the U.S winning medals, which metal? That's to be seen. I wanted to say the third country to be Russia, but I don't like their goaltending, Sweden is weak up front and the Finns... They're probably the most cohesive of the teams after the U.S, but just a bunch of.... average.
I'm looking for a Canada versus U.S. matchup in one semi, and the Russians to come through the other side.
If that happens, the final should be glorious.
Norway wasn't up to the task. Slovenia was a sweet surprise. As was Latvia. Blanking Austria? Wow. Guess Vanek and Grabner decided to just sit and watch.
I have said repeatedly over the last few years that I'm not interested in sports anymore. But every big international championship always has me interested.
Just watched the game between Latvia and Canada. Really great to see Latvia play that good hockey. A shame they didn't win.
Sweden won against Slovenia with 5-0, but the game was too early for me (9 AM local). I jumped up and down when Finland beat Russia. Wonderful, really looking forward to the semi-final. Have no preference for USA or Canada in a possible final. Just hope its us or Finland in the end.
Finland's 5-0 win yesterday was glorious. Wonderful.
Today... not so much. First 10 minutes looked pretty good and then it just collapsed. Latvia played better in the quarter-final. Just watched the interview with Swedish coach Pär Mårts. He was furious with the decision to stop Bäckström from playing 5 minutes before the game. Never seen a Swedish coach or player so furious, and that is saying something. The allergy medicine they stopped him for has been used for 7 years, so there shouldn't have been a problem.
With that said, Canada had the better team. But I do wonder how the Canadians would have felt losing Crosby 5 minutes before the game...
