Official Hockey discussion thread

It's a good move for both teams. San Jose gets an additional 2.5 for cap space and gets someone who can probably toss down around the same points as Heatley, given their stats from last year.

Havlat: 22-40-62 in 78 gp
Heatley: 24-38-64 in 80 gp

Basically, the Sharks are saying they don't believe Heatley can perform above this level, so they're swapping for someone who is cheaper at the same points range. The Wild are saying they think Heatley can still go back to the elite player level, probably playing with Mikko Koivu, and they have the money to try it out.
The Vokoun signing in detail:

He really wanted to play with the Caps; it's even said he was interested in being traded that way the last couple seasons.

Was thinking some more about the most recent HOF inductees, and I decided to come up with a list of Hall of Fame players active now.

Shoo-ins: Jagr, Hasek, Lidstrom, Brodeur

Probables: Pronger, Datsyuk, Crosby, Ovechkin

Hopefully not: Recchi, Osgood

My hopes: Thornton, Iginla, Luongo

I'd put Recchi under "probable," three cups with three teams? Not to mention his numbers... but I can see why you'd be against it.

I think he's very likely to get in, along with Osgood.  The Hall prioritizes team success over individual success (albeit Recchi at least is more deserving than Nieuwendyk).  They just wouldn't make my ideal Hall.

Lock I forgot from my list: Selanne.  No way he's not getting in.  It's a shame Kariya won't get in, 'cause he deserves to make it too.

Salanne is a shoe-in. I hope Osgood doesn't make it, he had amazing teams in front of him, but he was nothing special. Why would Kariya not get in? No cup? It's sad he left the ducks and Salanne came back. It would have been great for them to win it together.

It's ridiculous.  There's no question he's worthy.  He should've got in when he was alive, and because they failed at that, the HoF doesn't vote him in this year so as not to own up for their mistake.

So no more Pierre Maguire on TSN.
He'll be working strictly for the American networks this year.
Pierre Lebrun's the new guy at TSN. Nice pickup in my view.

If the CBC brings Elliotte Friedman on to the Hotstove to fill Lebrun's spot, this will be the best thing to happen to Canadian broadcasting in a long time.

So I never really paid attention to P.M's commentary until you guys here started talking shit about him. At first I didn't see what the big deal was, until I REALLY started paying attention to his commentary... good god what a moron. I'm not looking forward to the fact he will stay with American networks.

Well, he was lucky enough to play for fantastic teams for his career. That's how it goes sometimes.

Well, I don't think Brodeur is nearly as overrated as Osgood.  I mean, at the end of the day, Brodeur is still a legit Hall of Famer, is one of the better goalies of his generation, has been amongst the top 3 in the league several times, whereas Osgood... has been mediocre, and yet is bizarrely considered "clutch" and Hall of Fame worthy.
