To quote DownGoesBrown: "Admit it, it would be fun to watch Roberto Luongo win a Stanley Cup and still be roundly criticized for not doing it "clutchily" enough."

True North Entertainment has purchased the Atlanta Thrashers franchise and will be moving it to Winnipeg.

I know they are not going to call the team in Winnipeg "The Jets". Perhaps we can inspire a movement to get them to adopt my avatar as their logo?

Yeah, a little too soon. Lotsa good prairie folk here are getting fucked over royally by the Assiniboine River right now. Glad I'm high and dry. Rumour in Winnipeg today is that we're going to be the (God help us) Manitoba Polar Bears. Hope not...

Manitoba Iron Maidens, with Habberdasher's avatar as the logo.
I'm buying that jersey.

It's not a subtle prediction, I've been saying Vancouver since the season started. I've been pretty damn right since the lockout.

2006: Detroit (wrong)
2007: Anaheim (right)
2008: Detroit (right)
2009: Pittsburgh (right)
2010: Chicago (right)
2011: Vancouver (almost there)

I've been right on every series this postseason :D but this is the toughest yet. Boston will win IF their powerplay starts producing and Chara can keep the twins in check. Vancouver will win if they use their depth well, match the bruins in physicality and of course... if the Boston powerplay continues to blow chunks.

I've been a fan of the Boston bruins since I was 12 years old.... if they win I'd be the happiest non-Bostonian on the planet. But I have to go with my hockey-sense that hasn't steered me wrong yet.

The cup will go to Vancouver.

I just realized something... Atlanta is the only city in NHL history to have both their franchises move to Canada. The Atlanta Flames to Calgary in the 70's and now the Thrashers to Winnipeg.... if only more franchises followed suit *COUGH* Phoenix to Quebec or Halifax *COUGH*

Vancouver has an awful lot of fire power. They are big, strong, mean and can really skate. They have a lot of team speed. Boston needs to keep it along the boards and in the corners. That is their strength and it can take away the speed of the Canucks. I think if the Bruins can chip, chase and cycle the puck, then they can beat Vancouver.

That looked more like game five of a six-game road trip in January than a Stanley Cup final match.

I am surprised Burrows did not get suspended for game 2. He is now Head Villain in Boston. Two goals and an assist in a game he definitely should not been playing in. Lapierre taunted Bergeron during an end of the whistle scrum by putting his finger in Bergeron's face and opening his mouth. Henrik Sedin also made a joke about it during the NBC broadcast cutaway when he introduced his line as his brother Daniel and "The Vegetarian" Alex Burrows.

Burrows probably should have been suspended. But he wasn't, so...that's the way it goes. Everyone thought Horton should have been suspended for the Game 7 against Tampa. But he wasn't. So be it.

To me it looked like Bergeron stuck his hand in Burrows' mouth. Does that mean he should have bitten him? No. But, I think the league agreed to let Burrows play because 1) he is an important player; 2) Bergeron really didn't get much of an injury; 3) the camera angles blocked their view. (Similar to seeing the puck cross the goal line: didn't see it no goal, I mean no bite).

On that gamewinner by Burrows, WTF was Chara doing? Burrows turned him around, not once, but twice. And behind the net at that.

8-1 thrashing by the Bruins. Ouch. On another note, what are the opinions on the Aaron Rome hit on Nathan Horton? I had a heated debate with my wife last night and I said while it was an unfortunate hard hit on Horton, the only thing questionable was that it may have been a second or two late. She said it was a dirty hit and meant to hurt Horton, but I had to explain that Horton has more blame than Rome. Horton made a pass to his left, at the blueline and was still looking and admiring his play when Rome stepped into him. I had to explain to her that Horton should have been looking up ice, especially crossing the blueline because it is the most dangerous area of the ice. Rome was directly in front of him and did what he was supposed to, which is to finish his check. She also said it was a headshot. This is a gray area, as yes there was contact to the head, but it was a shoulder and not an elbow. I had to explain that the hit was far less viscous than the ones that Scott Stevens made a hall of fame career out of making. As far as the penalty, i do not agree with the officials. It was a late hit, but only maybe. There was contact to the head, but it was a shoulder. The only reason I believe Rome got the 5 minute major and game misconduct was the fact that Horton was injured on the play.  But I believe that Horton bears as much responsibility than Rome. That kind of leads me to the question, would Scott Stevens had gotten a 5 minute major and game misconduct in today's NHL for his famous hits?

Rome left his feet. If it wasn't for that, I'd agree with you, but he hops off both feet just before he makes contact. That makes it a greaseball hit and he deserves the rest of the series.

LC beat me too it. Left his feet... period. Not to mention Horton might miss the rest of the series. Sure the Bruins can insert Seguin again, but fact of the matter is, he could not replace Bergeron and he cannot replace Horton. I did like the absolute pounding by the Bruins, but after all it is just one game. If they can build from it great, but Vancouver is still favored.

Last time the Bruins were in the Cup final was against a Canadian team... what luck :p

He didn't leave his feet.

I think this is a case of suspending to the injury, but seeing as how it's Rome and Horton that's not too bad.  I think a one game suspension was called for.

It was interference and suspension worthy today, because the league has specifically called those hits illegal. I do have to wonder about Stevens, but generally speaking his hits on Kozlov, Lindros, Kariya, etc were timed much better (either the guy had the puck or just dished it). Still the league seems to be trying to have its cake (by showing all of the devastating hits in promotional materials) and eat it too (by trying to suspend non-marquee players when they make such hits).
