though today the scuttlebutt is that Mike Shanahan is a possibility.

You don't want Shanahan. He only wins when he has top-notch talent - and what coach wouldn't win in that case? Shanahan's entire reputation is built on winning two Super Bowls, but look at the team he had then: Elway, TD, Bill "I never saw a steroid I didn't like" Romanowski, etc. With a merely average team, he might occasionally get you to the playoffs, but any team he's ever coached without John Elway has choked in the playoffs (usually in the first round).

From the latest news, it appears that Shanahan isn't going to happen.  I happen to think Shanahan is an excellent coach, he's just not a very good GM or personnel guy.  He could never figure out how to build a defense that was any good.  I do think, however, that a big part of the credit for his two Super Bowl wins in Denver belongs to Alex Gibbs, the offensive line coach.

Todd Haley is being talked about again.  But he's kind of busy right now, what with coaching in the Super Bowl and all.  I'm guessing the Chiefs are waiting until the Super Bowl is over to talk to Haley and make a decision.  They'll probably go with someone young.

Well, I watched the game... I wasn't so super stoked about it, especially in the 3rd (that play at the end of the first half was a real downer for me).  But the 4th quarter was great, i was on the edge of my seat!  I was hoping the Cards would pull it out, but, alas, it wasn't in the cards (pun intended).

A question for those that really care:

Is Warner a Hall-Of-Famer?  There has been a lot of talk about that on the web recently, and I have to say that leading 2 Rams teams, and one Cards team to the Super Bowl (even with a 1-2 record) makes him a pretty good candidate.  Many would say that the last 4-5 seasons would maybe dissuade you from accepting that belief, but note has been made of other Hall Of Fame QB's that have fewer regular season and post season records.  I say, the guy is a stud, put him in the right offense, and look at him fly (as can be seen with AZ).  Granted, its a long time from now, but I do like the dude.

The fourth quarter was quite good, but the rest of the game was blah.  I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised.  I did enjoy the fourth immensely, though.

No. He'll get nominated and considered, but he had too many lean years. Put any good quarterback in the right offense and he looks great - but the test of a HOF QB is how they do in the years without a great offense. Guys like Favre, Marino and Elway put up the numbers and won games year after year, even when their support wasn't so good. A HOF QB makes his offense much better than it would be without him, no matter who he's playing with.

Warner has had some HOF caliber seasons, and if he doesn't retire has a chance for more. If he gets back to the Super Bowl again, he'd be a much stronger contender. (If he did it with a third team, he'd probably get in the HOF.)

But you never know ... I think the HOF sets its standards too low, and lets in too many people. (Not just the NFL HOF - most halls of fame are like that.)

I never even saw who they let in this year. I heard about Bruce Smith (very deserving), but I don't know who else. Must go Google...

I think Rod Woodson (Steelers/Ravens and maybe Cowboys)... he was pretty good. Derrick Thomas got in.  He never got to a superbowl, but I think DT was a great player.  He set the record for most sacks in a single game (7), and had many good years-- cut short by an untimely death.  He was from KC, so I followed him a lot!

Derrick Thomas definitely deserved to get into the HOF, and obviously he's a sympathetic pick given the way he died.  He is still a popular figure in KC, and his jersey is still one of the most popular among fans at Chiefs games.  I do think Kurt Warner will get in, too, simply because he has the best Super Bowl stats EVER for a quarterback, and he's been there 3 times (one more than Favre), and with teams that were crap before he got there.  Let's not forget, he just took the worst franchise in NFL history to the Super Bowl, and played extremely well (though the INT at the end of the first half was pretty devastating), leading his team to the biggest fourth-quarter comeback in Super Bowl history, only to be one-upped by Roethlisberger on the very next drive (which wasn't his fault).

Also, I don't think Warner fumbled that ball on the last play.  Definitely a close call, and maybe wouldn't have been reversed, but at a minimum, it should have been reviewed by the referee.  I mean, after all, it was the last (meaningful) play of the effing SUPER BOWL!!  The officials were abysmal in the game, throwing waaaayyyy too many flags, but at least their incompetence didn't strongly favor one team over another.

I saw the game and was very frustrated. AZ could have one the game even after the 100 yd interception. They fucked up with too many stupid personal penalties that added up to over 40 yards (off and def). Good fight though, for a cinderella team. My only regret is not having comcast and missing the 10 seconds of porn after the AZ TD :p. It made national news and only happened to Comcast subscribers in AZ LOL, Tyler Durden works AZ comcast hahahaha

The killer for the Cards was the interception at the end of the first have. They were near the goal line having a shot at 7, but at least getting three, Warner throws a pick to Harrison who runs it back all the way to the other end for 7. That is a ten point swing in Pittsburgh's favor, at the end of the first half. Arizona would have at least gone to halftime with the game tied. Given the way they played that game, I think they would have beaten the Steelers.

Considering their comeback, I blame the penalties for more lost opportunities for TDs than the interception.

The penalties were the killer; and I didn't agree with most of them. The officiating was abysmal, as it usually is in the NFL these days. The league really needs to address this problem, I am starting to not enjoy the game anymore.

This is really a shock.  It's too bad.  I actually care that this happened, which is more than I can say for Jacko's passing.

Steve McNair (Air McNair) was one of the 'old school' type QB's.  He played like he was a linebacker, and was a really good sport.  If I recall correctly, he was the last Huston Oiler QB, and the first Tennessee Titan QB (they moved).  His team was 3 yards short of a Super Bowl win.

Police have concluded that McNair was killed in a murder-suicide.  He was shot by his 20-year-old girlfriend (he is and has been married for several years) while he was asleep on the couch.  Didn't see it coming.  Yeesh.  The girlfriend then shot herself in the head.

Wow, that's really sad.

It's terrifying.

Well, Michael Vick is officially available as a player.  There seem to be teams that are interested in him, tho no one is stating that for the record.  I have to say that i always enjoyed watching him play; i followed him from VA Tech.  I think what he did is deplorable, but I also think he has paid his debt to society.  I hope that he is given a chance to play, and that he is truly changed by what he has done.  I know, however, there are many people that think he should never play foot ball again.  I dig that, but it isn't my opinion.

Most Footballers of the world (all varieties) should not be allowed to play anymore, most of them are trouble and believe themselves to be untouchable. Well hell, let's just say all major sports atheletes shall we. Since we collectively turn a blind eye in all instances for the most part, yes Vick should play again. There are others out there doing worse, most of them just haven't been caught yet.
