NOW WATCHING

Why destroy the reputation of a great movie by doing bullshit sequels??

Please correct me if I'm wrong (and I really hope I'm not), but Avatar does not have the reputation of a great movie. It's only bordering on good in my books.

You're right.
It was more meant as an achievement. Top grossed movie ever, plus he created a whole universe in it. Technically (effects, sound etc) was almost perfect
and overall a good movie to watch, plus with a great ecological message.

Maybe he wants to do better and use more original plots? (less Dances with Wolves) :)

Let's hope  :)
Unlikely though as in one year he has to finish the script for two movies...

It was an LSD vision of the Smurfs performing Dances With Wolves that tried hard to make up for its lack of creativity by feeding you to the top with this "universe" stuff that's been done to death recently, in my eyes. And it will look so old in ten to twenty years.

The effects are nice. I don't think they're outstanding. I think they could be a hell of a lot better.

The subtle stuff is what made it standout for me, using 3D to paint the scene versus the usual pie in the face type of 3D is what stood out for me, things like a small 3D leaf blowing in the background is what made the effects in this movie, there were few parts where I felt like I was watching a 3D movie, this is the first one I have seen that I can say this about.

Maybe. 3d makes my head hurt. I couldn't watch more than a few minutes of Avatar in 3D - the stuff I did see didn't impress me. It looked like 5 layers of a movie except for 1 layer of a movie.

It gets mentioned a lot.  Mostly people I hear proclaim its CGI is superb, but the plot is cheesy.

And that's the cheesy part. Seriously.  ::)

Take away the effects and 3-D, Avatar is at best a so-so preachy movie.

Environmentalism and preachiness go hand in hand.  It's the new Christianity.  Or at least it tries to be.

No Pressure.  Have you seen this before?  Warning: NOT for the faint at heart.

During my last DR test, one of my colleagues started to stream a bunch of episodes of a TV show he is besotted by - and so during the times we have to sit and wait for a restore to finish, we all watched it. The show is called The In-betweeners. Basically, it's about 4 teenage kids that are at that stage in their lives where they are in-between adulthood and childhood. OK, so you may assume it is a kids programme. Well, as it is screened well after the watershed you may well imagine what the show is about. This show has absolutely no boundaries and no subject matter is taboo. It's the type of show that some parents will not want your teenage kids to see - despite the age group of the actors. This show has crossed so far over the line, it's almost back to where it started. This show is not so much as "near the mark", its hit it dead centre and smashed it to pieces.

And yes, it is actually quite funny. :D

It's a good show, the Inbetweeners, but I think they're starting to lose their way a bit with the last series. Even so some moments made me laugh so hard recently.
Dirty talk: "I'm gonna fuck your fucking fanny off, you twat!"
Apparantly they're making a film spin-off where the lads go on holiday to Corfu or somewhere similar.

What do you think of Zoolander??  :)

I really enjoyed Zoolander. When Billy Zane said "it's a walk off" I nearly fucking died laughing. Also Ferrell's delivery of "I feel like I'm on crazy pills" was priceless. A lot of fun moments in that movie.

I think it was the first series we watched - I think it was about 6 episodes we sat through.

Avatar is one of the most annoying movies I've ever seen. Just a horrid movie with no likable characters, a terrible story line and no originality whatsoever. FUCK 3D! "I see you" indeed. Utter tripe

Try seeing it in a "different state of mind"

Makes it pretty enjoyable.

Trying out Doctor Who again. I didn't continue it after not liking Christopher Eccleston that much.

A friend from work made me watch the pilot to Season 5 with the 11th doctor and I quite liked it.

I hear David Tennant seems to be an overwhelming favorite amongst fans as well (and I like him a lot in "Single Father") so I plan to watch Seasons 2-5.

Speaking as a Doctor Who fan, I must admit that Eccleston was brilliant at the role but was not given enough time (or more accurately, he did not give himself enough time). Tennant came along and was possibly better - but he had longer to establish himself. However, the new guy - Matt Smith - is better. Much better (and he had massive shoes to fill). His character is more geeky and very "psychics teacher-esque" that lends itself to the role perfectly.
