NOW WATCHING

I think I'm going to skip cinema this summer.
But I watched series finale of "Penny Dreadful". What a awful ending.
Thanks God for Netflixes, Hulus and other guys that put the whole season out in one day - waiting for "Narcos" in August.

Watched The Revenant (2015), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and The Hateful Eight (2015) the other week; in that order. The dates are just to draw attention to the fact that I do actually watch (relatively) new films on occasion.

It looked boring.

Last movie I saw was Finding Dory. Best Pixar sequel since Toy Story 2 and pretty much on the same level as the original Finding Nemo.

Watched The Last Man on the Moon on Netflix, pretty interesting documentary on Gene Cernan. I watch most stuff about NASA and the moon landing era, not really a lot new for me in this, but still glad I watched it.

I thought The Martian was much better than The Revenant, which, to me, was a masterpiece of cinematography and that was about it.

What did ya think of it? I watched it yesterday and it was good but it didn't need to be almost 3 hours.
It was decent, but perhaps a little too long as you say. The first half I found quite boring to be honest (the survival element of the film, bear attack, etc; these are interesting things in themselves, but I'm not that interested in watching a film about them), but I thought it improved as the characters were sort of stripped away. It delivered a fairly bleak message in the end; this is something I'd normally find quite appealing, but there are films (& other media) which have done it better. I quite like DiCaprio in most films he's in, even if I don't think much of the films. This was kind of the opposite way round; I quite liked some of the ideas in the film, but it didn't need DiCaprio in it. He was good though.

I don't know about a "masterpiece of cinematography", but it was more cinematic than most of the garbage filmworld churns out.

So, I saw Ghostbusters last night. Non-spoiler review: I give it a B. Not great, not terrible. If you like Paul Feig-style movies, IE Bridesmaids, you will probably think this is better than I thought it.

In my opinion, the biggest weakness of this film was that it tried in too many places to follow the original, which meant that the strides they took to exit the original's patterns looked occasionally forced, as did the eventual return to the patterning of the original film. In a vacuum, I think I'd have liked this a little better. But the pacing had similar motions as the first Ghostbusters, except when it didn't. So your mind keeps going back and forward, back and forward...and that's not a good thing.

The cameos for the original cast were at best cheesy, and at worst, completely distracting and pointless to the film, because they demanded a bigger role (Bill Murray, looking at you).

On the plus sign, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth were absolutely hilarious, and definitely made the movie to me, and I'd watch it again just to see Kate McKinnon be the quirky and odd Holtzmann.

One of the most ... terribly mismanaged children's movies I've ever seen.

I remembered this little gem

NW: Me and my wife have returned to our Woody Allen marathoning. We've seen You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Stardust Memories, Hollywood Ending and Interiors lately and so far I disliked only Hollywood Ending and even that one was good at times. So far nothing has surpassed Radio Days, Crimes and Misdemeanors or Purple Rose of Cairo in my book, but I can honestly say that after seeing about 28 movies by him (many of them many times over), all were enjoyable at the very least.

This spring I wanted to see Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice in cinema but deceided not to go since I didn't have anyone to go with. Everyone who I've asked said they don't want to go since every single critic gave it a thumb down. Waited for Bluray extended release and started watching it on Monday. Ended on Thursday.

I wanted to give this movie two thumbs down, but this started to bug me. I don't know if english language has certain words for individual toes. In my language, the bigest toe is also called thumb or more exactly - thumb toe. As far as I've find in english language it's only called "the big toe". The reason why I ask is because I wanted to give this movie four thumbs down, two with my hands and two with my feet. Not that I can bend my toes (or in this case big toe/thumb toe) so much that it can resemble thumb down like I can do with my fist, but I think the gesture could be recognized. Since this forum is in english language I deceide it would be unfair to make up words because it would probably confuse people.

Conlcusion: there is not enough thumbs for me to put them down for this movie.

Details? Did u see Man of Steel 1st? What did u not like about BvS?

Undercover Bosses (on Netflix)
Watched episodes about Great Wolf Lodge, Subway, & Norwegian Cruise Lines. Common denominator? CEO's are worthless! None of them could do anything! I want to vomit thinking of how much money they make

Yes, I saw Man of Steel and all other DC releases before this one except Green Lantern, I think (not that it has any link with this one). There isn't a thing I like about this movie. Casting is bad, acting is worse, plot is dismembered, fan service is ungrateful and whole general tone of movie is failed. I honestly don't know to who is this movie intended ie. I can not see the population that would enjoy the movie fully (fans, comic readers, classic cinema goers, general audience, kids/teens etc.). I think they got lost between wanting a make a huge blockbuster, satistfying the fans and keeping the dark tone of the comics. IMO it's a complete mess.

This is a link to some very well articulated fan reviews (Positive and negative) from Amazon that might better explain what some people saw in it. The one constant I read, even in most negative reviews, is praise for Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, & Gal Gadot's performances.

As for myself, I agree there was too much foreshadowing to set up the future movies. Because I am knowledgeable about the future story lines (Injustice & Darkseid), the dream sequences made more sense to me than the average moviegoer. You were wise to watch the Ultimate Edition. The plot was actually more confusing in the theatrical version. The last 30 minutes, seeing the Trinity fight Doomsday, as well as the funeral of you know who, I enjoyed.

Time To Kill- the book took place in the 80s. Yet NO-ONE had A/C in the film. Find that hard to believe. In the 50s maybe, not the 80s.

I loved The Martian too, but Room was more powerful, at least to me. Go watch Room, everyone.
Did so yesterday. Strong film indeed. Psychology, drama
getting used to the real world, dealing with the trauma, grandfather who didn't want to see Jack
and suspense
Jack's escape and aftermath were thrilling! All the time I was afraid about what would happen to the mother as well)
on a high level. Interesting camera work, with lots of on-purpose-looking-amature-footage (different recording equipment, moving camera) to make it more realistic/documentary style.
