"puts computer game on par with console gaming"

what? Consoles have always been a step or ten back on almost everything video game related.

Part of console gaming's charm though. :p At least the older ones.

Consoles often do better graphics, mostly because developers have fixed specifications to work with so they can squeeze everything out of it rather than having to make sure it runs on many millions of combinations of parts like a PC. But consoles may as well just be a massive graphics card anyway. Gameplay wise, I would say PC games are usually better because they are not restricted (although it's less of an issue now) to what can be fit onto a single disc.

Not all the time. NBA 2k14 came out basically the same as NBA 2k13 for PC, but it was fully renewed for next gen consoles. 2009 and 2010 installations of FIFA series on consoles were significantly better than their PC counterparts, it took some time to get both of them on par.

PC gaming is always ahead, because you can always upgrade your system to the latest video/audio/graphics/etc cards. They make sure it looks good on minimum specs, but obviously aim high for "hardcore" gamers. Console games have a limit, those standard and set specs that will never change. It is always the same thing with consoles, the better looking games, better designed games always arrive toward the end of the consoles life cycle. Just look at the NES. Just from Mega Man I to Mega Man II there was a big leap, and by Mega Man IV they had it down pat. For more recent games look at the Gears of War Franchise.

If you read initial post again, you'll see that I was talking about the stuff I play, people. FIFA and 2k. Consoles are ahead in both games.

The reason that happens is because EA and 2K are invested in pushing console games and consider PC gamers a secondary market. It has nothing to do with anything else. They *could* make their PC games better, but they purposefully cripple that development area because PC gamers don't pay $65. Ever.

I don't care about its reason, what I said wasn't a general statement in regards to console gaming and PC gaming.

As a guy who plays pretty much nothing more than sports games (FIFA, NBA 2k, Football Manager etc.), I stayed out of the console gaming business and I intend to keep it that way. Especially with the recent developments that put computer gaming on par with console gaming (Ignite Engine by EA being one of them), there's no chance in hell I pay money for those consoles. Windows versions for FIFA 15 and NBA 2k15 were announced to be on par with the next gen console versions, that pretty much settles it for me.

It's clear as crystal. To remind you, Ignite Engine was only used for PS4 and XBOX One in FIFA 14, they added Windows to the list for FIFA 15.

Okay. And as someone who plays everything other than sports games, I can tell you that once you get outside that bubble (not telling you that you have to, merely saying) the PC wins every time.

What bubble? I never said PC gaming was behind console gaming in general. It WAS for FIFA and 2k, until this year, which is why I said "recent developments". PC didn't win every time for the games I talked about, which was the only reason I could consider getting a console. They're now on par, there's absolutely no reason anymore.

I don't know of a console before these new gen machines that could even begin to claim to be on par with PCs much less any version of any game, including the ones you mentioned, to be "on par" or "better" on console than PC. I first hand know that is not the case for the EA NHL games. PC versions have always been better. Clearly speaking sports franchise.

FIFA 09 and FIFA 10 are obvious answers. Console versions were miles ahead, it was only when FIFA 11 came out that PC versions were on the same level. FIFA and 2k obviously take a different approach (not for technical reasons, never said it was). The reason is probably the one LC stated (never argued that either).

Huh... Good to know. The last fair comparison I can make was NHL 98 which was still released on 16 bit, the PC version was obviously miles ahead, but the last one I played regularly was NHL 07 for XBOX and comparing it to the PC version of 98 it was a big let down, felt incomplete. I haven't had a decent PC to game with in a while, so I'm restricted to consoles. I've been reading A LOT of Game Informer reviews over the last few years and FIFA always gets very good praise while the other sport franchises are always nit-picked to death and the general consensus witht the Hockey games continues to be it's poor execution on GM mode, player creater, etc. Overall a good game, but usually gets high 7s to mid 8s.

Seem EA is selective as to which games they will put their heart and sole into, funny considering that the Madden and NHL games basically made them.

That must be the only thing EA are selective about, as ruining franchises seems to be a favourite hobby of theirs :P I've never forgiven them for Command and Conquer!

I prefer sports games on consoles ... especially the new consoles. Part of that is I really only use laptops (need the portability) and getting a gamer quality one is expensive as hell. Strategy games though are obviously much better ... and in many cases only exist on PC .. and play just fine on my laptop.

... I am thinking about getting the Sherlock Holmes game that just came out, looks good and the reviews seem solid from what I have read

Still working my way through Darksiders. Hack and Slash games can get fairly boring due to the repetitiveness, but the puzzle solving, platforming and story balance out the action nicely. Downloaded one o my favorite older games in Castle Crashers. I created an XBOX profile on my friend's 360 several years ago so when I downloaded it to mine, I have all these achievements and characters from games I played with him, so that's a plus. I don't have to replay anything to build up again. I already have all the in-game weapons and pets. Just a matter of unlocking more characters.

I recently started playing FIFA 15 online, after trying it out as a single player for two weeks. Result? Disappointment. The game feels really awkward for me so far, online. Dribbling is overpowered, defending against is near impossible. The EA cheese continues, almost every game I concede a goal that has nothing to do with my faults. I pass the ball the way I do all the time, for some reason the game tries to do something fancy that time and loses the ball and it always ends up being a goal for the opponent. Couple of hours ago I played a game where I was up 2-1 going into the last 10 minutes. I missed three straight open goals with people who rarely ever miss in those situations then conceded a cheesy goal. Tied 2-2 heading into the injury time, I dribbled past a couple of players and was going for an open position, only to run into a teammate which resulted in an offside. Why the hell would a teammate stand in the way of a player who's going for a 1 v 1 scoring chance? In the last minute I got the ball and started an attack. My opponent was going all in for the win so he didn't have a lot of defenders back. I was going 5 on 2, I passed the center of the pitch going for a goal, then the final whistle blows.

Classic FIFA sweat and cheese continues. I wonder if people at EA get a kick out of seeing people lose their shit because of it.

Also a note: The game is pretty much impossible to play with a keyboard. They made certain movements too sensitive for a keyboard user. I have to get a gamepad ASAP.
