Now Playing (Video Games)

Seems like my computer isn't good enough to run FIFA 15.

I played the demo, runs very well. However, you can't edit the controllers so I couldn't really play the game of football itself. I'm going to buy a gamepad for this one.

Same problem with the controller happened last year. You can change it in the full version. Which I won't be playing! :( I found a great mod that updated FIFA 14 with more clubs, national teams, all summer transfers, so it'll have to do :|

I know I can change it in the full version, I just prefer a gamepad this time. The competition in the online modes (I'm in Division 1 in both Ultimate Team and Seasons) is too intense to have the disadvantage of using a keyboard.

Grand Theft Auto V will be released for PC on January 27. Not holding my breath for this one, if I can't play FIFA 15, I doubt I'll be able to play this one :(

So I finally caved and got an XBOX 360 and it has to be the single worst decision of my life. You see, my weekends used to consist of house chores, reading and writing. On just to days of owning said contraption the dishes are still piled high and the floors remain unswept and unmopped while my guitar gently weeps. I had to FORCE myself to do laundry. For a good two days I was 8 again. I swear not since then have I spent so much time playing video games. Even when I had the original XBOX and the only game I had was NHL 07 I limited myself to two games a day.

I purchased Darksiders I and II. The best way I can describe it is Zelda meets Diablo. It is a great hack and slash game with enough plataforming and problem solving in it so it doesn't get repetitive and boring. According to the game stats I have played 6 hours worth of which I've only spent 1:40 in combat, or something around those lines. In the first game you play War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse who has been framed for starting Armageddon and he fights to clear his name. While I haven't started it yet, in the sequel you play Death, his brother and another of the horsemen, who knows his brother is innocent and also sets off to clear his name. While a sequel the timeline in the game occurs concurrently with that of the first game.

The sequel made the cover of Game Informer when it first came out and was critically acclaimed, but even with all that praise, both games seem to be sleeper hits overshadowed by the Halos, Gears of Wars, Maddens and other established franchises. I am very happy with the purchases as my apartment can attest and next paycheck I plan to get NHL 15. I thought about getting NHL 14 just for the fact that it is the 20th anniversary of the '94 (which I still own for my genesis), but I don't know if Nostalgia and collecting are good enough reasons to justify said buy, especially if the new one is already out. Aside from that I will be buying a little bit at a time from the XBOX arcade and borrowing from my gamer friend's extensive collection lol.

I've got both the Darksiders games on steam, and play them with the 360 controller. They were decent enough, but I wouldn't rank them as anything spectacular personally, Darksiders 1 was very long... which is something I normally like in a game (more play time = more value for money) but I got kinda bored, it felt so repetitive :(

I've never really heard anyone say anything about the games, and I do think they are worth some praise, but at the price of Xbox games I would certainly say go for something else first. Gears and Halo franchises I think are worth their status, unlike most people I actually adored Halo 2, probably one of the games it has taken me the longest to complete due to it having an actually difficult difficulty!! The game I have had the most total time out of is certainly Rock Band, and a fantastic party game (Although personally I liked to try and do the career modes, and the few times I managed to get multiple people to play no one wanted to put serious effort in, bah!) ... the DLC adds up fast though, and sadly my xbox only had the 20gb drive.

I've played Halo and Halo 2 in co-op with a friend of mine and they were awesome. Read the first three books (Fall of Reach, First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx), as well as played the first couple of levels of Halo 3. Thing is, that is the only way I enjoy the game, playing solo campaign of first person shooters isn't my thing. Don't really like them. You'll be glad to know that I got used copies for the Darksiders games, one was free and the other one US$9.99. So for that price I'm good. It is one of the many reasons I waited this long to get the 360. Not only are there still new games still being made for it, but as my good friend pointed out, I have 8 years worth of good games to catch up on which I can borrow or purchase for US$25 or less used at several trade shops in town.

That is true ... within a year or two there will be piles and piles of $5 360 games ... there are a fair amount of them now or buy 1 get 1 free kind of deals on used games.

... and NHL 15 is a lot of fun, I am playing it on ONE, but I imagine the 360 gameplay is the same. Much better than 14 IMO.

Fully agree that co-op is infinitely more enjoyable than solo games. To enjoy a solo campaign it has to be VERY engaging which they rarely are (difficulty helps keep it engaging for me), co-op is much more fun.

I got my Darksiders in the humblebundles for the PC, so I got them and a few other games for very very little expense, glad you got them cheap too - they are games that I certainly feel are worth a play if accessible, but (especially with the first being single player only, I forget if the second is?) not worth the full price that games tend to cost these days.

The consoles themselves have dropped a lot in recent years even prior to the Xbox One. I got mine a year after it was released and it was a big price drop already, but now the price is much further down and the hard drive space much larger as well. If not pressed for cash I certainly think they are a good buy.

I was planning on waiting on the ONE and just keep playing the 360 for a few years, but I won a free XBOX One ... so that made the transition a no brainer.

It is, I will say it is a good machine. Worth actually buying IMO. Games look and sound incredible on it. The new Hockey Game and Madden are damn close to watching a game on TV at certain points. I am impressed.

I got a bundle which was an XBOX with a 250GB hardrive (more than I will EVER need), a free game and a free extra controller. So I just said, "SOLD!" haha.

That is one of the biggest selling points of the new consoles, just the processing power that allows seemless (no load time), from one section of the game to the other as well as the ridiculous detail and realism of the graphics. The latest Batman game, Arkham Knight, or something like that is a great example. Not only can you see the rain, but you can see it trickle down every groove and bump of the armor, car and bulidings... in... sane.

One reason I haven't invested in either the PS4 or Xbox One is that there don't appear to be the killer games for those consoles like there have been for earlier consoles. There are, of course, really good games (the FIFA games have received very strong reviews), but not any blow-your-mind games, like the GTA and Uncharted franchises on the PS3, or Halo for the Xbox before that. The highest-rated games on Metacritic for the PS4 are two "remastered" PS3 games -- The Last of Us (which was awesome) and Diablo III -- plus fucking Minecraft. For the Xbox One, the big title was Titanfall, which only got an 88 on Metacritic. Meh. My time for video games is very limited, so I only want to play true masterpieces. The PS3 had several; so far, the next-gens have zero. Maybe this Christmas season will bring us some stud games; until then, I'll wait and play with my kids outside.

As a guy who plays pretty much nothing more than sports games (FIFA, NBA 2k, Football Manager etc.), I stayed out of the console gaming business and I intend to keep it that way. Especially with the recent developments that put computer gaming on par with console gaming (Ignite Engine by EA being one of them), there's no chance in hell I pay money for those consoles. Windows versions for FIFA 15 and NBA 2k15 were announced to be on par with the next gen console versions, that pretty much settles it for me. The games are expensive as hell, it's just not worth it. I understand that both Microsoft and Sony are trying to target guys like me by building systems that are designed as a full family entertainment thing, but I'd rather see them putting out consoles that are solely concentrated on gaming with more affordable game prices.

With that being said, I probably still won't be able to afford computer games either, I'll buy FIFA 15 because of its online features and maybe look to download pirated versions for the other ones. (Sims 4 recently came out and GTA V comes out in January, I'll look to get them) Can't do anything about it, really.

Whatever the cost, GTA V is worth getting. Most fun entertainment industry-created experience (movies, games, books, theme park, concert) I've ever had.
