Now Playing (Video Games)

Some games are definitely scripted so that you can't win no matter what you try. When you can't get past the opposing player and when they press you during the whole 90 minutes.

Really horrible things about FIFA 14 that need to be changed immediately:

1) Momentum: It's meant to be realistic because a team that starts a comeback has the edge sometimes, but it completely turns your team into a bunch of schoolboys. Just get rid of it.
2) Script: Like you said, you just cannot win some games. The game should reward the better player. This especially goes for online modes because you only face an opponent once.
3) Players Colliding: This is extremely messed up. I know EA is obsessed with "realistic physics" but seeing your two defenders collide with each other and let the ball get through is really annoying.
4) Lock Ons: This is probably the most annoying display problem for me. I play fast-paced passing football and use through balls quite well. Sometimes the targeted player doesn't lock on and doesn't run after the ball, even when it's perfectly hit.
5) Overhead Kicks: This one is just dumb. Defenders can do overhead kicks to clear balls anywhere, anytime in this game. It really isn't that easy to do in real life, pretty much never happens.

3) Players Colliding: This is extremely messed up. I know EA is obsessed with "realistic physics" but seeing your two defenders collide with each other and let the ball get through is really annoying..
Most stupid thing is when my CAM/ST has the ball and moves to the wing to send a cross, and the winger is getting in his way and finally touches the ball resulting in offside. This happened to me about 100 times...

Basically it means that if someone is behind (and generally an AI player), then that person will get additional benefits and the like in order to catch them up (so the game is "as close as possible").

In racing games, it means that they'll get higher acceleration, higher top speed etc.
In RTS games, it might be that they get extra resources or their units are created quicker etc.

Like, if you're about to have an undefeated season in Madden football, and your team improbably fumbles on four straight possessions and the other team's pass completion percentage skyrockets to nearly 100%? I know that feature well. That is what the reset button is for.

In several RTS' I've played higher difficulty AI wouldn't actually be better, just get a quicker build speed and resources to the extent you would be permanently behind.

I've never heard it called rubberbanding before though, everyone I've played with uses that term to describe the connection issues where everything stops for 10 seconds or so and then goes at super speed to catch up.

There's a nasty program on Source games that lets you manipulate it so you reap the benefits of rubber banding, without actually experiencing any lag.

a few games.

I am almost done with Knight of the Old Republic 2, the mod with the new plant. Very cool, the game is much better (getting off Peragus still sucks though) ... looking forward to seeing what they did with the ending.

Also played Murdered: Soul Suspect on XBOX1 ... cool game, you are killed and as a ghost need to solve your murder in modern day Salem. Interesting story, good characters, and good gameplay (not a shooter or anything, more of a who done it game) ... my only real complaint is the game was a bit short, but what was there was fun.

You heard right ... it is a lot of fun. The new planet is a bit annoying (at least the first part of it) ....but the game is vastly improved overall. Looking forward to the ending .. which should be later this week at the pace I am going. It is really worth getting/playing. You can get the mod to work with Steam (I bought the game a while back when it was on sale for $4 ... seemed easier then trying to find the stupid CDs)

I have the Steam edition as well, probably got it at the same time. I'll put it on the list, though I'm currently playing my way through a few different games, so it'll be...on the list, as it were.

The only thing you really need to do is set steam to "do not update this game" .. otherwise it will overwrite the mod(s). The general mod and the new planet mod seem to be the main 2. The rest are minor stuff like different uniforms, etc.

There's a bunch more stuff nearer the end of the game that helps tie up alot of the loose ends that the originally released game had.

Anyway, I've been playing Civ 5 quite alot recently. It's a great game and fairly balanced, until you hit the nukes which are stupidly powerful and are uncounterable, which sours the endgame a ton.
