We've had a few interesting "NOW..." threads, and I think this one might be fun too. Post your favourite food and, if possible, a brief description of the ingrediants and how to prepare it.
My favourite is the donair: Spiced meat, chopped onions, tomatoes, and a few other veggies served wrapped in pita bread and smothered in the mystery sauce. Apparently Atlantic Canada the only place in North America where they've really become popular, owing to the large community of Lebenese immigrants we have had since the early 1980's.
A traditional Acadian dish that my mother makes very well is Rappie Pie - shredded potatoes layered alternately with chopped onion, bay leaves, and pork, and whatever spices you like. Bake it until it "stays together when you cut it" (as my grandmother always said). This is a great meal for college kids like me - very cheap, extremely easy, and quite tastey.
