The Angel And The Gambler is a good song. So is Don't Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger.

I like the message that the latter gives. When you're listening to Iron Maiden, listen to Iron Maiden. Don't listen to Queensryche instead.

in all honesty I will risk posting this on this forum. TAatG is not a good song. it is far from being a good song... it is a bad song, and it doesn't have anything to do with Blaze. and if it adds to my credits I've watched the world premier of the video back in the day. thought it was bad...

Oh yes. Plenty. Queensryche from The Warning to Promised Land, were all solid, and in my book, Operation: Mindcrime is better than any single Iron Maiden album.

Maiden and Priest are still my two favorite bands though.
 
I got it Stardust (read it, understood it, but didn't post it).

When I listen to the Maiden track, I can't help thinking of the Muppet Show (Muppet drums during the fast part).

Not sure why we're debating this. There are a few people around here that like TAatG, but I think the majority of us Maiden fans find it to be a rather bad song.
 
TAATG video is good campy fun. Notice the Eddie's Evil Brew bottles, that Blaze orders at the space casino (?) with the Real Live/Dead one Eddie on the label. Maiden beer before Trooper ale :)

Also, that's a huge McBrain Premier kit in that video. I think there's like 10 toms mounted around him...yet, no fills in that song whatsoever. All show :D
 
The Angel is only "bad" if you press play with the expectation "this is Iron Maiden, it better sound like typical Iron Maiden". They weren't going for "typical" on that track, and I don't think its differences should be held against it. I also recently heard my copy of the live version from Madrid '98, where it is demonstrated that this song was written for the stage, and the studio is a lesser conduit.
 
The biggest issue with TAATG is the structure. There's nothing wrong with any of the musical or lyrical ideas, it's just arranged poorly.
 
Yes. That's why I feel the edited single works much better. There's no reason for the singalong to be there on the album. The audience isn't dumb. For example if Bring Me Your Daughter - Fetch Your Daughter was dragged out and repeated four or five times on the album like it is live, it too would have been very annoying.

Good, campy video indeed. I wonder how hindsight would be for fans if that song if the edited version had been the album version, and the extended version ending up as a B-side for the single and for live shows (as it was clearly intended, but for some reason recorded as if they were playing in a live format).

Now a BAD video would be Virus. I cringe every time I see how dead serious they are in that empty swimming pool, with the thing shot like they were a garage band who borrowed a neighbor's camcorder instead of arena headliners.
