Imaginaerum is my favorite Nightwish album, and the only weak "song" to me is the intro. I voted for SLS and the first instrumental, but I love them both; the other songs are just better.

Overall, it works decently, but none of the individual songs hold up to their best work. The songs are too orchestral, Anette sounds so silly on many songs, and there is a disturbing lack of guitar.

Voting for End Of All Hope, Wish, Sahara, 7 Days, Taikatalvi, Arabesque, Song Of Myself and Imaginaerum. Imaginaerum is a great album, was tough to pick what to vote for.

Still a 4/5, but there's just nothing special about it. And the keyboard/orchestra is way too damn loud.

Song of Myself contains one of the best vocal melodies* in the history of Nightwish, in the form of the pre-chorus(?) of All That Great Heart Lying Still.
A song of me song in need

A verse of me verse in need
Of a pure-heart singing me to peace
Unfortunately the song gets worse afterwards. And it has Rime of the Ancient Mariner length. If it was a separate song I'd certainly try to get it far.
And Sahara voters, come on !
*And Ride has some of the worst vocal melodies (the verses). So simplistic and dumb, that it hurts my ears. I dislike the overly happy chorus, just like in Storytime (childish melody).

It suffers from the same disease as The Greatest Show On Earth, called "Tuomasitis", symptoms include "pompousness & needless overlong boring narration". Although that song has about 10 minutes of quality music whereas Song Of Myself has only 5 or so.
Not looking forward to this. I think I've listened to Imaginaerum maybe twice, and never had the urge to go back to it.
I got bored of it pretty quickly after release, but I relistened to it last night after a while and I liked it way more than I expected. Was way easier to pick songs to vote from it than DPP. And I like it more than DPP already.

I like the orchestration; if I wanted more guitar parts, I'd listen to every other metal band out there.
That's what happened to me, as well. Upon release I thought it was more of the same, but on re-listen I loved it. Even the ballads interest me, and usually Nightwish's ballads put me to sleep (except for Islander).
Man I forgot how incredibly stupid the middle of Song of Myself is. Why do they have to ruin good epics with overly pompous spoken word sections? I try to stay away from the word pretentious when describing music but....yea.
Anyway, I still like a lot of Imaginaerum. The first five songs plus Last Ride are really strong. It falls apart a bit in the middle there but still some good stuff in there.
And the title track is so cool. Honestly it's the best thing on the album.

I edited my album to stop after 6 minutes or so of Song of Myself, right before the "old man masturbating" talk sections come in. It truly makes for a better listen.

I sometimes hear ABBA in Sabaton. But I can't hear any Sabaton in ABBA.
