Nicko McBrain retires

They recorded it for sure, noticing the video angles. Whether they'll release it in full is another question, the 2nd night is the most important. Btw, the recent tour wrap video includes footage from Mexico.

That would be awesome.

Maiden are not like that, they won't just play the hits without new music tour after tour.

I really really doubt that, big time. The current decisions may have been planned in advance.

I think they're just unsure, especially if Nicko told them later. The mention of only 2025 could be because of the dates, but it's still odd. Plus he still hasn't made a post about the big news. If they want to bring a young drummer (Joe) for a tour and an album, they would have announced it methinks. Later I assume. And I don't think they're going to record without Nicko, although I'm not sure about anything right now.

Not a young drummer, but one around their age could mean this will be the last tour. It also saved the band auditions, if there were more candidates. He has been playing with Steve since 2012, the quickest decision for the already announced tour. We have to note that Bruce's current solo band and Smith/Kotzen have young musicians.
Ive seen the video again and steve drop the drum stick to thr audience

The second leg is probably already booked, and they are being very diplomatic with making it seem like Simon is more of a hired gun than an actual member. My guess is that Nicko won't play with Maiden live or in the studio ever again, but they dont want to upset the fanbase and with good reason. TFPT had songs Nicko has been saying he wanted to play for years, like Alexander.

Exactly, you're pretty right imho. Steve is a conservative bloke he'd never announce the proper drummer for his band "just for a while or one leg of the tour". Simon Dawson is a new Maiden drummer, that's a fact.

I think people are reading a bit too much into the "2025" (only) mention regarding the Simon Dawnson announcement…
Realistic version: Not the most skillful communication that didn't take into account how much speculation this detail could trigger.
Conspiracy theory version: Iron Maiden “always get their man”, which means he's still resisting and negotiating better terms. In the meantime, the drummer who was already the backup drummer and is already familiar to Steve steps in.

Spot on, but I think Nicko will be a special guest next year for at least one show for 1 or 2 songs (maybe the encore) and he will definitely show up if the next tour is the last one.

I would be really surprised if they announce another drummer for the 2nd leg, especially if they knew about Nicko since last year. I guess they want to see how they will work live with Simon, but if the next tour is the last one then it's not something to worry about that much and they've surely played something with him already.

There are so many high-resolution close-ups of Nicko now. I looked at so many and it made me sad. Because of end of the era, but also a little bit because I think he struggled a lot more and was worse off than most thought.
If someone told me that the man in the photos was 82, I would have no problem believing it.

I also don't think it is realistic but we have to keep in mind how many here were sure that Maiden would never continue with new musicians, no way!
Maybe we should learn from that to be more cautious about declaring something impossible.

Sure, I just don't think Maiden/Steve are the type to use different drummers for different tours. If they wanted to do auditions, they would have announced the new drummer later, simple as that, right. Nicko knew since last year he couldn't play the same and I'm sure he told the band mid-tour or something, he has pride and respect.
Give me another Listen with Nicko series.
Listen with Nicko again, bring it on! To tell stories about the rest of the singles. It would be interesting.

Since Nicko mentioned Saga's Worlds Apart was his favorite album once, I decided to give it a listen again after many years. People back then thought Nicko was an odd fit for Maiden after Clive's departure but Nicko's love of Saga says a lot. Harris noticed he had an ear and a liking for prog so he probably thought Nicko was a great fit for Maiden's developing prog side.

Spot the Maidenisms in this song. Modern Maiden would make a 12 minute song out of this one I'm sure.

Love the Worlds Apart album. Got to see Saga on that tour supporting Tull.

We just saw Nicko in Minneapolis probably about a month ago or so. And I asked him, like, 'How are you doing?' He was having problems playing 16th notes, he said. But he's still Nicko — funniest guy, best guy. So it doesn't surprise me that he retired 'cause he told me before, 'I want the guys to go on when I'm ready to stop. And it's gonna be soon. MAIDEN is so classic in that, if you think about this, they didn't give fans a chance to even think about it. They announced it on the morning. He plays his last show that night. They announced the new drummer the next day, and boom. It's, like, 'See you, guys.' It's, like, 'Whoa.' They didn't do, like, the Nicko farewell tour or anything like that. But, obviously, they've been planning it for a while. And Nicko, one of the most influential rock drummers ever, and more importantly, just a sweetheart of a guy. He's one of those guys, as you all know, no one ever says anything bad about Nicko McBrain — ever. He's just the friendliest, nicest, happiest, most encouraging guy. So, nothing but the best to him, man. And it's gonna be hard to replace Nicko McBrain. But he earned his right to step down. And he's just a classic drummer and a classic man.
It leaves the door open. And Nicko even said in his statement that he's still gonna be working on MAIDEN-related projects and he's still managed by longtime MAIDEN managers Rod Smallwood and Andy Taylor. So whether he plays on the album or not, I think they're leaving the door open for him. But, as you know, IRON MAIDEN songs are not easy to play, and recording a new record takes a while. So, maybe he'll play on it, but I think once you kind of step back from that daily playing or that tour life of playing, he might not wanna do it, or maybe he'll do a song or two. But I think it leaves the door open, but I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. And MAIDEN isn't doing a record anytime soon either. So...

I guess this is just his assumption about a new Maiden album, right.

So this basically confirms that:

a) Nicko himself decided to step down.

b) They knew about that for at least since August.

Yes, of course. I never believed he surprised everyone with this a week before the last show.

Its is just speculation, and sometimes I was wrong but I always like to pay attention to small details in photos or what someone says (if it is not a prepared statement) because it reveals sometimes what is also on the mind. In my private and professional life I have often noticed things that turned out to be very true.

In the Chris Jericho quote it stands out how he says "on the album", not "on albums" or "a possible future album", as if there were something more concrete he heard about.
He then tries to backtrack by saying "MAIDEN isn't doing a record anytime soon". Without this context, that is an astonishing statement.
It is surely not Chris Jericho's job to confirm that more clearly than it has ever been confirmed before. Indicated that there were no plans, yes, but so clearly confirmed. Strange.
