Nicko McBrain retires

Steve and Bruce don't allow themselves to be emotional. If you look closely, they were teary eyed and left the stage soon after the cheers.
Yep, I noticed right away that Steve was emotional there (maybe not quite as much as others, but still).

An announcement from Iron Maiden's Tour manager:
After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy…

Tomorrow's announcement from Iron Maiden:

Iron Maiden are delighted to announce that stepping in behind the desk for 2025 is a name familiar to many of our fans – Nicko McBrain

Stop trying to make this meme happen. It's not happening.

if they didn't announce Simon shortly after, people and the magazines would write many guesses which includes famous drummers like mangini and all, conspiracies would follow etc. so pr-vise it's right to announce the new drummer a day after to shut this ongoing gossips. let's see what will be nicko's role on this new era. and still there is no new post on simon's instagram, i think he is also trying to figure out whether he is a permanent member who will play on the recordings too... :)

Yeah, I think that at this point only Bruce is irreplaceable, if band intends to go dilute into oblivion way... (not gonna happen)

They can also (try) to go with British Lion route and some songs record with Nicko and some with Simon.
I thought Maiden wouldn't replace anyone from that lineup, but that's never going to happen^.
I imagine Nicko will be working in some capacity as a spokesman for the band, doing promo and things. He's such a huge personality and it would certainly be much easier than life on the road.
I don't think he would want that. He's going to a more than deserved retirement, a life and a family.
I would have preferred a personal video from Nicko detailing his future with or without Iron Maiden. Very strange communication non-respect for him and us
I certainly expect such video. Actually, we should get short videos with all the band members and other tour stuff now after the tour is over and before the release of the live video. They will do it.
I like that idea. A video with Nicko and Simon together when Simon would be announced for 2025, as good mates, Nicko funny as always.
I would never have expected that.
I'm basing this assumption on what Nicko has said in the past, what Steve and Bruce said in the past and on this year's performances, particulary the Titanium Tart ones from the summer.
Nicko has stated in the past that if he feels like his performances are not up to standard, he will step down and persuade the others to get a replacement with his blessing. Steve and Bruce have stated in the past that the January 1999 - December 2024 live lineup is the last one. One of those happened and the other didn't, which leads me to believe that Nicko resigned himself.
The Titanium Tart performances from the summer were significant, in my opinion, because they weren't good. It was obvious at that point that Nicko's drumming ability hasn't improved a lot since the end of 2023 and the playing inactivity made him even more rusty than in previous years. The extended break between 2023 and 2024 could also signify that the band wanted to give Nicko time for his health to improve.
The fact that Nicko toured in 2023 is incredible. The fact that he finished the whole tour is even more incredible.
So, in short, based on past statements and observation of the performances, I assume that Nicko resigned himself.
From the little we know, it seems like the band have been really supportive of Nicko. I can't imagine a scenario where Steve has told him to step down.
Completely agree. They are a family, they wanted to continue with Nicko. And he has pride and respect for the fans.

No one is replaceable. Even more so now. They won't do it again. They're not getting younger.

Gentlemen, even with your historical penchant for bad takes, these are exceptional. Bravo.
I think you misunderstood me on this one. I think no one in current Maiden incarnation should or could get replaced. Including Nicko. But - purely hypothetical - if Maiden team would choose to continue no matter what, a way of self annihilation - to dilute itself into oblivion - then I think Bruce is the only one irreplaceable, because he's the voice of the band. Let's say Bruce would continue the band with Steve's blessing. And I understand that Steve is Maiden. He wrote the most of defining Maiden songs. My point was just regarding if Maiden would choose to go a bad route. And obviously even with Bruce on vocals but without Steve's creative input it would be Maiden no more.
Hmm, even then, why I choose Bruce over Steve? Because, I guess, to me would be much harder to see Iron Lion (only original member - Steve) than Iron Bruce (only original member - Bruce).

Lovely video. Thank you again. I wonder if there will be more short tour videos and some with comments from Nicko and the others or that will be saved for the rumored documentary.
I just mean it's a shame he's not in the clips of them hugging him by the curtain backstage. Felt incomplete. Lovely video otherwise
Wow, what a lapse, why is that? Agreed.

Just a bit of a shame as silly people who like to make rumours up will speculate why he's not there (when he was)
