Maiden songs you are currently stuck on

Infinite Dreams questions existence at it's last verse...Starblind gives the answer.

And also is pretty much how are the personas of the two different guys that composed Infinite Dreams and Starblind; Steve is always questioning things and supposing how the outcome should or would be, Bruce is direct, he takes a holistic view of the matter adds his own views which aren't questioning but enlightning (Steve's lyrics are like that, too, but in a different way). and comes more with answers and exposure rather than suppositions. So you got two strongheads working together with clearly different approches to things and life.

Have in mind that in this particular song, lyrics are direct but they ain't blunt. There are a lot of metaphors and lyrics feel completely cryptic at first listen. The opposite of Bruce's textwriting would be Sacred Cowboys, again great lyrics, but very blunt, fitted to in-your-face music. In any case, the whole music-lyrics coupling of Starblind is fucking awesome, the best combo they've done in many, many years.

@chaosapiant, thank you very much!

It's not blunt, but it hits very hard. First time I read the lyrics, I was blown away.

"The preacher loses face with Christ, religion's cruel device is gone..."

That is absolutely one of the most fucking brilliant lines ever.  It is BOTH blunt and metaphorical.  Not to mention the power of how it is sung.

In fact, it's much more heavy this way than if they were blunt like Shoot All The Clowns, Fire or Sacred Cowboys.

Some of Starblind is blunt. But the rest needs some thinking. That's what really makes the lyrics brilliant. Bruce gives you a good fucking hint, but you have to puzzle your way through the rest.

And, much like Coming Home, you can tell he MEANS it when he sings it.

Starblind... thanks to the wonderful discussion about it's lyrics. 15th listen today. Catching something different almost every listen.
